I'm writing a book in which a main character is profoundly deaf. I want to portray deaf culture well and accurately. Can you recommend some YouTube videos that will help me?

Like this one:

Thanks!

PS In this video:

the woman talks about how deaf people are more blunt, talk more, etc. That seems like an unreasonable generalization. Do you agree with that?

No, it is true as a generalization. We are known for that.

Are you hearing? If so, I would gently suggest writing something you know about.

Thanks for being blunt. ;)

Yes, I'm hearing (wife is HOH), but I've had characters who are dino-birds from a parallel universe, mind readers, high-rise kleptomaniac jewel thieves, schizophrenics, autism sufferers, and politicians. So I'm hoping that if I get some help, I can do justice to deaf culture. I look forward to researching it.

Why do you think that's the case? For example, do you think there's something about signing that might make someone more blunt?

1st off, I suggest you take that gentle suggestion.

Lastly, first rule of the Deaf Club, there is no Deaf Club.
