How many people here on AD would consider themselves hardcore poker player? anyone play a lot of online poker?

on facebook thry poker. yes. real money at online? It's illegal now.

No, online poker isn't illegal.. USA is taking action against the poker sites on bullshit charges for various reasons to make it hard for the poker sites to operate in the USA. However, it is not illegal for people to play online poker on the sites who still allow USA residents play on them despite USA's crackdown. Heck, I still play online poker for money.

EDIT: However, real money online poker is illegal in few states such as Washington and Illinois. Ironically, those states have casinos, and lotteries. The majority of states in USA don't have anything that makes online poker illegal.

Me hardcore? Never. But I play $25-50 NL at times. You'll also find me doing $10-20-40 these days.

Never play online poker.

It is illegal. We should not be involved in any gaming activities outside the casinos. That is how the law is. If you feel I am wrong, please refer yourself to the gaming codes of the states.

I'm betting you're playing on Cake Networks. :)

No, it is NOT illegal. There is zero federal laws against online poker, only few state laws. I guarantee you cannot come up with a federal law declaring online poker illegal anywhere.

What website I play on is irrelevant.

Where did I say federal laws?

The federal jurisdiction comes into play when you're committing a crime across state boundaries.

You say online poker is illegal. You determine that based on what?

Not to mention - They don't take taxes on your winnings, which is the very reason they shut the internet poker sites operating in the states down.

We all can debate that taxation is illegal but we pay up anyways.

Actually the sites are located outside of the USA which is why they don't take out taxes on the winnings. It is the players' responsibility to report their earnings. The actual reason why USA shut down the poker sites, is to form their own and have their "piece of the pie".

The sites that were shut down originated in the USA.

You refer to the states law. This is very vague as there is 50 states. I stated earlier that the majority of the states don;t have any laws against online poker except for few.

Exactly. They have their own gaming codes. When one violates them on a nationwide scale they are subject to federal prosecution.

FYI - online poker is illegal in USA because it is not regulated... therefore illegal.
