I'm Karla. I'm deaf in my right ear, 30% hearing in left ear(wear an hearing aid). Measles damaged the nerves as a kid. Didn't get vaccinated. 9-14 years of age wore the aid in left ear. 14 - present right ear. Speech is very well because of speech classes early on but my deaf voice sounds like a slight cold. Hate leaving voicemails! I've strived in the hearing world pretty well as long as my hearing aid worked. If not, not good. Was told by four specialists I didn't qualify for an cochlear implant due to the damaged nerves. Not sure if I want something drilled in my head, though. Currently taking a ASL class and to be honest it's challenging. Do I like it? Not really. It is what it is. Just looking to chat with similar deaf people as myself.
