Austin Community College is looking for qualified applicants for a 9
month, 25 hrs/wk Sign Language Interpreter Position. This position comes
with benefits. The college provides interpreter services to
approximately 70+ deaf students each semester. Our department includes
have 5 half-time staff interpreters, a lead interpreter, a supervisor
and approximately 70 hourly interpreters.

If someone is considering relocating to Austin and would need other
employment to sustain themselves there are plenty of other opportunities
to work in the community. We have 2 VRS Centers, several interpreter
referral agencies for those who like freelance work and other
post-secondary institutions.

DESCRIPTION OF MAJOR DUTIES AND TASKS


Reports to the Interpreter Services Supervisor and is responsible for
providing interpreting services. Provide interpreting services for
students, faculty and staff who are deaf and hard of hearing. Prepares
for assignments by reading textbooks, conferring with students,
instructors and/or other interpreters. Assists in presenting training
programs and workshops pertaining to interpreter services. Provides
general office support including assisting with planning and
coordinating the scheduling of interpreters. Other related duties may be
assigned.


QUALIFICATION STANDARD


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Experience: Must possess required
knowledge, skills, abilities and experience and be able to explain and
demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the
essential functions of the job can be performed.

Required: One year related interpreting experience in a postsecondary
setting. Ability to work a flexible schedule. Effective communication
and interpersonal skills. Ability to assimilate information and
interpret effectively in both English and American Sign Language.
Ability to work one-on-one and in a group setting. Demonstrated ability
to exercise tact, discretion, and work with confidential information.


EDUCATION


Required: Associate degree or equivalent college credit course work.


CERTIFICATION


Required: Hold RID Certification CI, CT, CI/CT or CSC or TCDHH
Certification Level 3 or above.


ADDITIONAL INFORMATION


Additional Information: NOTE: Applicants must submit a tape of
themselves expressive interpreting (English- Sign) college level
material of at least 10 minutes in length and receptive interpreting
(Sign-English) a deaf person presenting information, of at least 10
minutes, on a topic of their choice. In lieu of a tape, an applicant can
elect to take the ACC Interpreter Assessment.


LOCATION: Riverside
HOURS: 25 hours per week as assigned
SALARY: $1,108-$1,360/monthly. *This is an ongoing 9 month position to
be paid over a 12 month period.

APPLICATION PROCEDURES: Official transcripts are required for all
Faculty and Adjunct positions. Photocopies, electronically scanned
transcripts, and transcripts stamped, "Issued to the Student" are not
accepted. Education Institutions may mail transcripts directly to Erica
Breedlove, Employment Supervisor, ACC Employment Office, 5930 Middle
Fiskville Road, Austin, TX 78752. Please do not submit official
transcripts with application materials. Transcripts are only accepted
from education institutions.
