Levonian said:Theoretically, it’s possible. Hybridization has occurred in animals that are far more genetically diverse than humans and chimps. Rumors have been floating around for years that the Chinese have created humanzees and are keeping them secret from the rest of the world. It’s very unlikely that these rumors are true, though.
There was a considerable amount of interest in the 80’s and 90’s in a chimp named Oliver who demonstrated some very unchimplike behavior. He walked upright, and he hated other chimps and preferred the company of humans—he was constantly trying to have sex with human females. He also had a strange bird-like voice and looked downright weird. There was some serious speculation amoung reputable researchers that Oliver was a cross between a chimp and a human. The issue was resolved in the mid 90’s when DNA analysis showed that Oliver was just a chimp—albeit a very strange one.
