Botox pageant girl taken into care

A controversial pageant mother living in the US has had her eight-year-old daughter taken away by social workers after she injected her with Botox.

Britney Campbell was removed from Kerry Campbell's care over the weekend after she appeared on US talk show Good Morning America and defended her daughter's treatments last week.

"I've spoken with someone very close to the case, she is out of her mother's home," journalist Lara Spencer said on Good Morning America.

Ms Spencer said Child Welfare Services was investigating the San Francisco resident.

Ms Campbell, a part-time beautician, said she bought the Botox over the internet and used it on her daughter to help her compete in beauty pageants.

"When Britney takes part in pageants, parents talk about how they have given their daughter an extra jab to plump her lips or lose a wrinkle," the single mum said.

"Everyone is doing it and talking about it. We are not doing anything illegal."

The 34-year-old said the treatments would help her daughter stay "baby-faced" for longer and help her become a famous model or actress.

But pageant organisers condemned Ms Campbell's actions, saying it was unheard of for pageant parents to give their children Botox.

"What would a child have need of Botox for? They don't have a wrinkle on their face." California Gold Coast Pageants director Barbara Thomas said.

Ms Campbell, who moved to San Francisco from Birmingham, northwest of London, came under fire in March when the British press reported on the lengths she was going to ensure her daughter would one day become famous.

Britney has also been waxed, saying she doesn't "think it's ladylike to have hair on your legs".

That's good. The child would certainly become an emotional cripple if that treatment had continued.

Hopefully a relative with good sense will get custody.

How do you know? It's the parents that make the decisions in the best interest of the kids.

And this one is so wrong in so many ways. First health wise, this child is 8 her body is going to be going thru some incredable changes and she already thinks she needs her legs waxed? Many of these MOMs are living out "their own fantasy" thru the child. What kind of mom would tell her 8 year old you need to get needles stuck in your face so we can keep you looking like a baby longer? No one knows the long term effect of this procedure except it freezes where ever it"s injected and the muscles atrophy, my god...
Lastly, mom is perpetuating the " if your not perfect, you loose"...she's 8 come on.
This borders on child abuse...and it sickens me to think moms are doing this kind of thing to an 8 yr old who trusts her. I have seen a show on TV called toddlers and tiara's..it is so sad...the kids are tired, mom is shaking them, the kids are asked over and over, "are we gonna kick some butt today?" seriously. This is not healthy for the body , mind or spirit of any child...Midnight♥♥♥ Oh and btw..parents do not 'own " their children. They are blessed with and intrusted to teach them, encourage them and LOVE them....OK..I'm done...sorry

This is clearly child abuse. Good decision, CPS.

Funny, I was wondering why CPS didn't do anything about it but apparently, it was not aware of it until after the news reported it.

Not only that it deserves CPS's attention, it's not approved by FDA for children. Although doctors routinely prescribe off-label, that kind of practice seems extremely unethical and potentially dangerous.

If it's not approved for children, why is it being used in adults?

GOOD. It ain't right for mothers to give a botox to their child to win things. Winning is not important, only LOVE is.

In this case mothers give kids botox to gain advancement in a contest that could possibly lead to bigger things in life later on.

Like Authentic brought up in another thread - this reeks like the CI debate. All parents know the best for the child.

So if a parent can't give their kids botox, why are they giving their kids CI's? Both have the exactly same goal which is to gain advancement in life.

Your thoughts, bro?

It's parents decision to make on a child??? If it is in the best interest of the child then YES, Parents have a right to choose. IF it is NOT in the best interest and is harmful to the child's well being then No, Parents do not have a right to abuse her. This situation the best interest was for the mother regardless of the child health. BoTOX... Is a toxin!! Who would want to inject poison in their bodies in the first place, much less inject it in a child.
