following routine (they don't like to officially diagnose infants deaf until EVERY leaf has been turned over, regardless of family history) Avery saw the piediatric ENT doctor this past Friday. As we were already told by the Audi, her ears are clear. The ENT said that from her results so far, plus the fact that she does not respond to sound/voice/noise, hers looks to be profound loss. She has her ABR scheduled for 5/9, and after that we will be going to Charleston to speak with the specialist there. The ENT said there are "many new advances/options available". I didn't quite understand that..does he mean CI, ect? We have no interest in pursuing CI if she is even a canidate. I feel as though she was born deaf, so she is not "missing" anything, and it is not my place to make such a MAJOR descison for her. When she is 18+ if she wants CI that is her descison. Anyways, just thought I'd update. I'll let ya'll know what her ABR results are.

Yep, I'm sure he meant CI when he spoke of advances and options.

Please do keep us posted. She is such a cutie!

Your daughter is so cute!!!

I am sure the options include CI surgery in addition to HAs.

It is not the ENT's place to say whether or not has will help or not. It really is hard (if not downright impossible) to tell how aids will help a particular loss.
Are you near a good Deaf School?

Agreed. There are too many variables involved as to whether an individual receives good benefit.

Thank you for all of your responses:ty:

I just posted her latest update.

Hugs,
Robyn.
