Same here

I totally agree also...I am hearing, I have several reasons why i am here. I am here for friends, male or female - just friends. I'm here cause I have an obvious intrest in the Deaf community. I want more than anything to learn as much as I can about the Deaf and HOH world. and yes I am in school to be an interpreter. and yes I have assignments, my teacher is Deaf and she suggests video chatting as one of our interaction grades. So my intentions are all good. I dont have any questions, I have the internet and the library for that. I simply want to get involved. I know it sounds weird to say..." I want deaf friends"... That's like saying "I'm learning spanish and I want Latino friends. That sound kinda... I don't know. I can't help that I am attracted to ASL. I love to sign and learn new signs. I want to be an interpreter because I feel that I have an ability to help communication barriers between hearing and Deaf, if help is needed/wanted.. I'm so happy to be welcomed to alldeaf. I just wanted to clarify my presence. ;)

I feel the same. I'm hearing, Even though I started off to a rocky start here on AD, I'm slowly learning from the deaf/hoh, hearing members here. I have learned so much and that is why I am here not only to learn but because I love to talk and get to know people in general and it so happens that I also have a love for sign language and to learn more about deaf culture. I can't explain why I just do. I can understand how being asked the same questions about someone's deafness could get super annoying.

been deaf is hardest thing in world does not understand job's sport's music watching movies tat we want enjoy our life's cause living on ssi is not easy lived on even when people made fun of us when signing or finger spelling when signing other i want add some of us see how beautiful girl or women on ur age but stuck cant talk have write or type on phone am i right or wrong?

Good post. We see too many of "Help! I'm new here! I need answers!" threads. It's been done over and over. Hopefully new members who come here just for the purpose of getting answers for their class will look up previous posts and threads.

I first want to say that I completely understand why there is such a regard to people joining this chat just for information. With that being said, I am a senior at University of Michigan-Flint and I am conducting a survey on cochlear implants. I am looking for responses from both those who have a cochlear implant and who does not. I will upload the link and if anyone wants to participate it will be great. I do want to let you know that I am not just asking for the research that I have to do. Upon graduation, I am looking to go back to college to get certification to be an interpreter for the deaf and my interest in the topic is because I truly want to know more about the Deaf culture. You can go to the link at allcounted.com and go to the survey for cochlear implants. Thank you for any assistance and/or participations.

hello! I'm a Biologist/Software Developer who's new to ASL (and this forum). I wanted to make a 'research request' as part of a personal project (an online tool to translate American Sign Language to text). Specifically, I need to find people willing to volunteer to record themselves signing a few words for me.

Do you know which thread I should post on? I would really like to interact with the forum/users in the right way so would appreciate any advice on how to reach out to people (I actually posted on a few threads already, not a great idea looking back at it now. I'm trying to find a way to take down those 'multiple posts' now) thanks!

Hello everybody

Nice to be with you by this site.I want to introduce myself. My name is Gamze from Turkey,Istanbul and my father is a well known ENT(ear, nose and throat)professor, performed thousands of surgeries for deaf children and adults. He is majorly doing cochlear implant and other various ear surgeries for deaf children.
You probably already know what cochlear implant is but to give you a brief explanation;it is an electronic device that does the work of damaged parts of the inner ear(cochlea)to provide sound signals to the brain. If implanted at the early stages of deafness(age 1-4),it is extreamly helpfull.
I would be really glad to help all deaf born childrens if possible.
My contact is gamzeguldiken_@hotmail.com

Best wishes
xxx

First of all, AllDeaf would like to make a warm welcome to those who are interested in learning American Sign Language (ASL), Deaf Culture, Interpreting Students or anything else that is affiliated to the Deaf Community.

There are some things that I want to bring in light of this before you guys consider making a questionnaires/surveys on this forum.

As you know, We oftenly see a lot of these questionnaires/surveys through out the year. A lot of times, we see these newly registered members that signs up to post these questionnaires and then when the questions are answered, they usually leave.

Some of the times they make such posts that are for their homework assignments. Please do not expect to come in here to find quick answers just because it is for your homework. If it is for your homework assignment; You are expected to search the answers for yourself because there are more than plenty of available information/resources on this site in a lot of different forums.

The goal of this is to make a purpose to reduce the needs of pooling these general examples of answered questions for these guys are available, we have a general answer, it prevents unneeded user registrations and lessens "overall posts" even though it might not be that much.

These are the varieties of such common questions we would see;

While we understand this is for you guys to come on this forum to search for the answers that you need for whatever reason it is, This is not to say that we are pushing you guys away. That isn't the intention as it seem to be. You guys are more than welcome to come on this forum to inter react with other members and to find what you're looking for; but in overall; I ask that all of you guys need to take this in consideration to see what really underlines beneath of all how this information can be easily obtained if you were to be reputable to make the search on your own.

Secondly, If there's nothing that has been mentioned on this forum that has been said to ask questions that hasn't been asked; Please do so. Just remember, There are a lot of FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) that has already been here over and over from time to time on this forum. These questions has been answered numerous of times.

Now with that being said - If there's anything else that needs to be added on this; Please do so and with respect as always.

Thank You. :)

P.S. -- I also would strongly suggest for you guys to look and check out various threads that relates to your interests on such forums as -- Our World, Our Culture Forum, Sign Language & Oralism Forum, Deaf Education Forum and Captioning & Sign Language Interpreter Forum to get the answers from there.

I totally agree with the initial post and your response. I'm also hearing and I'm here for personal interest. I'm a translator (English/Spanish) and I understand the "wanting to break barriers" feeling. I love language and personally think that ASL or sign language in general is an amazing way of communication and a beautiful language. I've not had the pleasure to meet a lot of non-hearing people in my life but the ones I have met have showed me into this new amazing world. I've fallen in love with the community itself and would like to understand it better. I do have thousands of questions but I don't think anything in particular. One of the biggest reasons I want to learn ASL is because I love music and would like to "experience" (for lack of better word) music in sign....

Well, thank you everyone for being so welcoming. I wish I had more time to log in but lately I've been running like a chicken without a head ha, ha, ha. Also, I would like to apologize for anything I could've said on this post a previous post or in the future, I hope you can understand that I say it out of ignorance and not stupidity. Please feel free to politely correct me at anytime. :)

Thank you for your support.
Ali

I started to take ASL because my friend was deaf. I wanted to be able to communicate with her. It only been 3 years since I started taking it. I love signing more then talking. I might not be fluent but I try and I want to learn more of the culture and meet more people.

Good post
