Pants-less criminal fails to leg it
Man nabbed in Gisborne when pants fell down as he tried to run from police while allegedly trying to steal car, upon release from prison
A man freed by Gisborne police after two months behind bars, was back in custody within five minutes after tripping himself up allegedly trying to steal a car near the police station.
The man received a two month jail sentence in the Gisborne District Court yesterday for offences he was arrested for in February. He was released last night on the basis of time already served.
Police say he had gone no more than 30 metres from the police station when he was observed on CCTV trying to break into a car. Officers raced out and started to chase him.
The man's belt had been taken from him in jail and when he tried to run off, his trousers fell down around his ankles.
A 30-year-old man is now facing charges over the car break in.
