jillo, I know generally sociopaths don't know that their evil actions are wrong. However, Josef has indicated that he knew that raping and imprisoning his daughter was wrong. Doesn't that argue against him being a sociopath?

No. His admitting his actions were wrong were not the result of conscious, but of telling the police what they wanted to hear in an attempt to gain their favor so that he would be in a better position to manipulate.

I agree with Vampy. Why else would he have made a 'nuclear bunker'? Austria wasn't a major player in the nuclear arms race at the time the cellar was constructed.

This guy deliberately planned this out, he knew it was wrong. He's a psychopath, but not insane. He needs to be locked up for life, in a dark, moldy cell and denied even the most basic medical care.

That is exactly what qualifies his behavior as deviant. He knew it was wrong,a nd rather than abide by that which is right, which is what the majority of us do, he decided that his needs and desires were more important that obeying the law, and considered himself to be so superior as to be above the law. I"m sure he also considered that he was so much more intelligent than everyone else that he would be able to keep up this charade for as long as he chose to. It is these distorted thought patterns that make him diagnosable.

The insanity plea also is on a continuum. Criminally insane does not necessarily mean that the individual doesn't know right from wrong. Once could be considered criminally insane because a predisposing mental disorder allows them to have the thought patterns that justify committing atrocious acts against others. It isn't that they don't know right from worng, but that they consider their wrongs to be justified.

What needs to happen in such a tragic and twisted situation like this. Is the father needs to be kept in a very dark room for the rest of his life. Every once in a while, a very large male horny gorilla should be allowed inside his very dark and small room.

ZEILLERN, Austria - One of the offspring of an Austrian man who kept his daughter confined to a basement for decades and fathered her seven children has been reunited with her family and is expected to make a good recovery, doctors said Wednesday.

Kerstin Fritzl met with other family members Sunday, shortly after doctors woke her from an artificially induced coma she had been in for weeks, according to two doctors and Christoph Herbst, a lawyer representing the victims in the case.

She was admitted to a hospital April 19, unconscious and suffering from multiple organ failure.

Albert Reiter, the doctor who treated Kerstin, said she greeted him during a morning visit June 1.

'Great relief'
"I say to Kerstin — 'Hello Kerstin' — and Kerstin tells me: 'Hello,'" Reiter told reporters at a news conference in a hotel in Zeillern, several miles from Amstetten.

"For all of us, Kerstin's surprising recovery is a great relief," said Berthold Kepplinger, director of a psychiatric clinic where the reunited family is recovering from their ordeal.

Kepplinger, who described the reunion as a "touching moment," said Kerstin has expressed "many wishes," including going on a boat ride.

Reiter added that she also wanted to go to a Robbie Williams concert and even attempted to dance to his music in bed before her tubing was removed.

That is a great news about Kerstin. I am so happy that Kerstin is out of coma and is reunited with her family. I hope all the family will be fully recover and lead a normal life soon. My thoughts are with them on their journey to full recovery and a peaceful life.
