MyFox Tampa Bay | Burglary victim steals burglar's truck

This one is too FUNNY. The thief deserves it! Now he knows how it feels to be victimized.

LUTZ - It was just before dawn Monday when Augustine DeJesus was startled by someone prying into a cash register inside the restaurant where he works: Rosa's cafe. DeJesus was getting a little sleep in the back before the breakfast shift and didn't know what to think.

"He gets alarmed, he goes out because he doesn't know if it's one guy, two guys, or three guys or if they're armed," explained Lorenzo DeJesus, Augustine's son.

When he ran out of the building, DeJesus saw a pickup truck sitting outside with the keys in it and the engine running. Seeing it as a quick way out of a dangerous situation, he hopped in and took off.

"Basically he got into the pickup truck and fled home and that's when he called police," said Pasco Sheriff's spokesman Doug Tobin.

At the same time DeJesus was calling to report his restaurant being burglarized, a man identified as Leonard Levy was calling 911 to report his truck stolen. He told officers he was getting gas from the gas station right next door to Rosa's Cafe.

"As we checked out his story, [we found] the gas station was closed," Tobin said.

Detectives then checked the garbage dumpster next to the phone Levy used to report his truck stolen. In it, they found a large amount of cash and a screwdriver.

So, detectives say DeJesus actually took the very truck Levy was apparently about to use as a get away car.
No charges were filed against DeJesus. Levy was charged with the burglary at Rosa's Cafe. Investigators believe he may be responsible for at least a half dozen other burglaries in the same area. He has a long criminal record including 25 burglary related cases.

I've got to love those dumb criminal stories.

It's stupid enough for the thief to report his truck being stolen when he knew he was burglarizing the restaurant. As always, criminals tend to leave a trail behind.

Yeah! I read it again, and still can not believe he is such an idiot. But then again he was dumb enough to rob the restaurant.

He was so busted anyways when the truck was taken....If the man would not have called the cops the cops would have found out through the truck..
