Come Back Tomorrow, Cops Tell Bank Robber
URL: http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmp.../odd_robber_dc ALBANY (Reuters) - An Albany man turned himself into police after seeing himself on TV news robbing a bank but was turned away by officers who told him to come back the next day, police said on Tuesday. Albany resident Darrell Lewis, 40, surrendered to police hours after his Nov. 1 holdup of a downtown bank but was told to come back the next day to be arrested. Lewis went to a different station the following day and was charged with robbery, Albany police spokesman Jimmy Miller said. The incident has prompted an internal investigation. |

Jeesh...certainly doesn't make Albany cops look good. I would really love to learn what the underlying circumstances are. I've seen similar situations where someone will go to the police and say 'There is a warrant out for my arrest' and in many cases, there isn't one or the warrant hasn't been issued. The clerk goes into the computer and can't locate anything that says that person is wanted. You can't arrest somebody because they think they are wanted. Regardless, if a guy shows up at your police station and says 'I'm the guy who robbed the bank at 3rd and Main' it would probably be in your best interest to take him into custody

Exactly Taylor, at least hold the person until he/she can either be cleared or arrested....
That's a bit of a strange thing coming from a police station...which is indeed hard to believe and fathom for the actions that they did take--it sure will be interesting to know what really took place or their reasons for having this person to come down on the next day! It's almost like...giving prisoners the key to their cells so they could let them out the next day?! ![]() |
