Why tires instead of regular weights?

Hummer tires bring up the bar a little higher than your standard powerlifting deadlift event using metal plates. The Hummer tires are taller as they rest on the ground. Plus, it looks awesome that way.

I see. That one time I thought the bar would bend enough to break before he could put it back down.

No. Those bars won't break. It'll bend and flex with enough weigh on it. I've lifted over 800lbs before and it's kind of cool to see a bar flex like that.

About 100 pounds each. Plus they add plates on the end of the bar since you certainly cannot go up in 200 lbs increments.

I want to add since I have extensive knowledge about these tires.. They're BFGoodrich All Terrain KO tires. I should know that because I have the exact same tires on my jeeps, and truck.

I think Hummer tires are about 37" tall, so that would put the bar at about 18" or so off the floor.

Except if you noticed in the video there is a platform where strongman put their feet on. So, that lowers the bar down to about 16".

I've always wanted to try that but never got around to it. I did something similar (rack pulls) using metal plates and work my way up to lifting upward to over 800lbs. It's a gradual process, so much strain on your wrist and body when you do this.

I saw a video of him dropping something like 800 lbs on his chest. He walked away from that apparently uninjured.

EDIT It was 1015 lbs.

Yes, only because the idiot does not do a full grab around the bar with his hands/fingers but the bar rests on his hands instead. Like an open palm bench press.

Yep. That's the word. Can't imagine 1000 pounds feel like but I know what 600 lbs felt like in a bench press position pressing it and holding it there. The strain is incredible.

That's why you have that platform to help counter the bend in a bar or else you wouldn't be able to get the whole thing off of the floor.
