The inability to hear didn't stop thousands from participating in the second annual Ranger Triathlon Saturday.

The Texas School for the Deaf race, geared for children ages 7 to 17 and adults new to the sport, features a pool swim start, closed bike course and a mixed-terrain run course.

"I think its great that not only are a lot of the kids from the school participating, but also a lot of the teachers, staff and faculty are helping out with the event today," parent Simon Mulverhill said.

Event proceeds will provide needed equipment and program support for the Texas School for the Deaf's Physical Education Programs. The event also promotes the importance of physical fitness for a healthy lifetime.
