How To Get Into Deaflympics?
Three years ago, I talked to a man who used to be on the Deaflympics swim team in either the 1970s or 1980s. He said my times were faster than his were, but I am clueless what it takes to qualify for the Deaflympics right now. I do know however that my 100 breaststroke time is not too far off from the world record shown on www.deaflympics.com, but my record time is from about nine years ago when I used to be on the high school swim team.
Then last January, I went to the YMCA swimming near nonstop everyday and to my great surprise I found that I was even faster than I was on the high school swim team. For the first time, I was able to breaststroke each 25-yard lap in an average of only six to eight strokes. My freestyle became a lot faster and even though I have not been on any swim team since high school, there was a HS varsity swim team in the next few lanes at the YMCA and to make an comparsion, I decided to swim for about the same duration and was swimming faster than most of them. But I'm not sure what it takes to qualify at the Deaflympics level. So what does it take to get involved with Deaflympics? Examples: Do you need to be part of a team first? Or sponsored? where do you start? who do you talk to? What does it take to make it on a team? If you have anything else to say, go ahead and share. |

Emailed them and waiting for a reply.
But does anyone have an idea about what the steps are to qualifying? Is there a coach out there somewhere directly involved with Deaflympics or does it really matter what sports team you participate in to get ready? |

Looks like even though the information at http://www.usdeafsports.org/ is not updated for the next Summer Olympics, it has more information that helps the athlete know where to start.
Everyone's feedback counts and good luck with Deaf Handball team, farewell65 |
