Speech information help please!

Hello!

I'm planning on presenting a speech (history of oralism vs. ASL) in a few weeks to a college class full of hearing students and one HOH. As far as I know, most don't know much about deaf culture.

Can you tell me:

What are the most important things they can do to communicate with someone who is deaf or hard of hearing?

What are some common misconceptions you wish hearing people knew or understood?

Are there some basic signs I can teach them (in a short amount of time) that you think would be most important? Thank you...etc.

If you have any thoughts on the speech topic, please feel free to leave your comments.

Thanks in Advance!
