Billie, you'd probably be better off using a regular computer, if you can. I'd think that it would be A LOT easier on you.

so...a few of you guys have added me on skype (for which, I am really grateful). unfortunately, i haven't video chatted with anyone yet because i'm SUPER nervous. i've been going to Deaf Chat Coffee nights where i live and watching people sign. i've even signed with a few people, but it seems like they kinda get bored signing with me because i only know basic conversational signs. anywho, these experiences have sort of made me nervous about skyping with anyone....suggestions?

I am hard of hearing, almost went deaf as a young child. I have always been considered hearing, but as I get older am asking people to repeat themself more. I have ringing in my ears again and find myself turning the t.v. and radio up much louder now. So began searching for sign classes, I am currently in ASL 2, my last class is this Wednesday. I am looking to become more proficient and learn more. I know the only way to retain and truly learn is practice so here I am. I am looking for people in the Ct. Area to help.

I came across this website while trying to find good fingerspelling practice videos, as I'm abysmal at both fingerspelling and understanding fingerspelled words.
I'm only at the end of my first semester of ASL, so I don't know that much yet, but I'm better at understanding signs than fingerspelled words. This seems like a great way for people who want to practice to find one another even though we are in different parts of the country. Fabulous idea really. If anyone wants to practice with me that would be awesome! Be forewarned, I am very slow still, and often need things repeated a few times before it connects in my brain, but I'm trying really hard. If anyone who is also a beginner or has a ton of patience wants to skype, my skype name is poppyphlox on there as well. I hope we can all help one another learn better! |

*peeks in*
Is anyone very patient willing to put up with me? I have no formal instruction, only my own study of sites like Lifeprint and some instructional DVDs that I bought. I have a very limited vocabulary and need slow signing and fingerspelling. The only person I've had to try and practice with is my other half, who has likewise had the same instruction so we're both probably just a bunch of bad habits and half-formed signs. Is there a text-chat option in Skype to allow you to clarify things? If anyone wants to try, my Skype name is suicideperkies and I'm in the UK time zone (GMT +1) |

Hello everyone! I'm looking for skype friends to help myself practice. I am a hearing person with a caring heart and have fell in love with the beauty of ASL. I have 1 Deaf friend that has taught me most of what I know but also nearing the end of my class (ASL Beg. #2) unfortunately I do not see the class forming into #3 due to the drop in numbers from the 1st class to the 2nd. So I am preparing to venture off on my own... I haven't found any local hang-outs or events to get face to face experience with others :/ Anyway... everyone is welcome to add me on FB or Skype... don't worry about being nervous because I probably will be also!
My details are in my contact info on my profile. Thanks In Advance! |
