MCL = Manually Coded Language.

Change the L to an E... you get E for English!

MCLs used in North America are: SEE1, SEE2, cued speech, Signed Support English/Speech. Rochester method is something that lasted until the '50s or '60s in some Deaf School, and you still see adult signers, albeit elderly, use them. I have only met three people that used it-- and they were my grandmother's neighbours when I was growing up in Lethbridge.

Some people say PSE is a MCE, but I disagree and to me... PSE is just something that happen when fresh (or rusty) ASL users are not used to the ASL grammar. You can tell who is and who isn't immersed into the culture by their grammar.

If I might add on top of your observation; even within the D world, ASL at it's purest is not used correctly. And I'm not saying mine is, either....lol

I don't think there is even such thing as a "pure language." Languages are constantly evolving so what is defined as "pure" would have to change along with the language, which detracts from the very idea and feel of "purity."

Ok, splitting hairs, I see. I meant native-like; fluidity and "gramatically" correct.
