song translation

hey guys... i was wondering if you could help me translate these lyrics to ASL... i want to sign it for someone..thanks!

Its important to me that its not translated word for word, and more the general meaning.... thank you!

"The Real Thing"

Every word I say, I mean it
Every single day, I feel it

But sometimes when you talk
It's obvious you want to show it
So don't blow it

[Chorus:]
Tell me what we got, tell me it's a lot tell me it's the real thing
Tell me not to change and always be the same, tell me that's a good thing
It's a good thing
Tell me not to lie, tell me not to wait
Tell me that you want the same things as me
Tell me that it's fate driving me insane
Tell me it's the real thing
That keeps me hangin on

I can read the signs between us
I feel it inside when you come nearer
There's a stillness in the air like no one else is there
And every moment stays in the moment
Yeah

[Chorus:]
Tell me what we got, tell me it's a lot tell me it's the real thing
Tell me not to change and always be the same, tell me that's a good thing
It's a good thing
Tell me not to lie, tell me not to wait
Tell me that you want the same things as me
Tell me that it's fate, driving me insane
Tell me it's the real thing
That keeps me hangin on

Sometimes it hurts to watch you leave
It feels like you're taking a part of me with you
I never know how it'll be
I guess it's just a mystery
But is it the real thing (that keeps me hangin on)

[Chorus:]
Tell me what we got, tell me it's a lot, tell me it's the real thing
Tell me not to change and always be the same, tell me that's a good thing
It's a good thing
Tell me not to lie, tell me not to wait
Tell me that you want the same things as me
Tell me that it's fate, driving me insane
Tell me it's the real thing
That keeps me hangin on

Tell me what we got, tell me it's a lot, tell me it's the real thing
Tell me not to change and always be the same, tell me that's a good thing
It's a good thing
Tell me not to lie, tell me not to wait
Tell me that you want the same things as me
Tell me that it's fate, driving me insane
Tell me it's the real thing
The real thing

You are asking people to do a lot of work for you. But more than that there are things in this song that defy explanation -- They are feelings you would have to express with your face and body -- And no one can tell you how to do that -- you have to feel them.

I don't think it is possible to do what you are asking in a forum setting.

Why don't you take a stab at it first, and then let ADers help you fine tune the translation? Otherwise, it's like someone else doing your homework for you.

One general suggestion: Analyze the song in "chunks." Don't try to translate one word or phrase at a time. Determine the conceptual meaning and emotional feeling that goes with each section.

I agree with Reba and Berry. You could tape yourself and find a way to post it like via youtube, repost it here and as Reba said, critique it. Or if after you've looked over sections and are still maybe confused like "how can I convey this thought into feeling?" etc.

Good luck and hope to see what you've worked on

I second this! You'll run into a lot of English idioms in music (and in general) that don't always make sense when you translate them directly. That's why Reba mentioned focusing on conceptual meanings.
