Summer at Gallaudet
Has anyone here gone to the intensive ASL program at Gallaudet University? I'm asking because I have signed up for the program. It's a one month program broken into 2 parts. It starts in July. I can't wait. Being deaf and not knowing sign is one of the hardest things to explain to my hearing friends. I really want to learn so I can connect to my other half, the deaf community better.

In a pink and black world

I have taken ASL 5 during the summer at Gallaudet. I have met those who just came for the summer and they have said they enjoyed the experience.
Alyssa, I grew up oral without knowing ASL. Learned it at the age of 25 at Arizona State University and then went to Gallaudet for my master's. It was a cultural shock and awesome. Since then, I havent gone back to the hearing world full time. I am very involved in the Deaf community now.

I would love to take a summer class there but financially , my bills and rent come first. I did check it out on the website for this years summer classes looked pretty tempting to go.

Thanks Shel90.
![]() My goal is to become an audiologist and graduate from Gallaudet with a doctorate. I'm very excited to get a look at Gallaudet before I even attend. Most people aren't so lucky to spend a whole month on their top college choice's campus. Yay! I leave in 15 days for the first program (2weeks). Then I come back for a day and go again for two more weeks for the second program. I am SO excited. |

It's a great place to learn ASL more effectively and immensely at Gally unlike it does anywhere for sure!
Summer program is probably more ideal for the starters, but it gets much better to learn lot by meeting more deaf students in the college season (24/7 at one place). Good luck and enjoy! |
