RSL - Russian

I dislike "Moscow" on RSL (Russian Sign Language) to show it to Americans because it equals menstruation on ASL. I warned some Russian or Ukrainian deafies to use fingerspell "Moscow" to American deafies.

I dislike "Sorry" on ASL, because when you say "sorry" in ASL in Russia, every deaf Russians will think that you are "MAD".

See, if you don't want to sign it, you can always finger spell it "M O S C O W".

Try to read the entire post.

And now I'll never forget how to sign Moscow in RSL!

I have no problems with the sign for Moscow. Learning about our differences is an adventure in itself, not something to be limited by what we are comforable with.

Agreed, but it's probably good to know what may shock someone who uses a different language or dialect. For example, the word "fanny" in American English is a harmless and kinda cute way to say "buttocks." In Irish English (maybe British too), it refers to a woman's genitalia. So imagine my visiting Irish friend's shock when my California friend sat down after biking all day and said "Boy is my fanny tired!"

Or, in another example, it's good for acculturated Americans to know that if they're conversing with someone who is using Japanese sign, the middle finger is a handshape and not an offensive gesture.

Oh really? Why they rather to spell MOSCOW instead of RSL? Does deaf Russian think RSL is offensive?

Pinky, please read the original post. It is explained there. The sign for MOSCOW looks like the ASL sign for MENSTRUATION.
