can anyone tell me what two fingers (index and ring) to the chin myight mean?

the palm is facing out (me)

Can you provide a picture? The way I'm interpreting what you're describing, it's way too awkward to work ...

Yep, I tried it to give myself a clue, and couldn't even form a sign like the one described! Just felt very awkward!
