How do you sign "just"?
I do not mean as in "recent" like "Just Married," but as in "I just wanted..."
or "Just what I wanted..." Depends on how you say it, of course. I know some words in English probably does not really exist in sign language or (ASL) and some of them are probably replaced by gesture or facial expression... I am curious if there's a sign for that word and I've already tried website aslpro.com Anyone have an idea or know the sign for it? Thanks.

I use the same sign as for only. Index finger up, first facing outward, then turned inward.
You should be able to see it here: http://commtechlab.msu.edu/SITES/ASLWEB/J/W1941.htm And this site in general is good: ASL Browser |

"I just wanted..." and "Just what I wanted..." are two different concepts for the word "just."
In the first it's more like ONLY, although I think SIMPLE might be closer. In the second it's closer to EXACT or PERFECT. I think you could get the concept across without focusing on that word though, since there isn't a really good one-to-one interpretation in my opinion. |

Judging by your avitar, do you play CoH? Just curious.
But--yes, you're right. Funny, to avoid confusion, when signing I'd probably mouth "exactly" instead of "just" when signing "just what I wanted" to avoid my small hearing brain being confused. I often change my English sentence composition to meet with what's more easily signed by me. |

I was just curious, I knew that word "just" can be used in a many different ways.
I liked the sign that asl browser used. As in for "exactly" I would think it depends on the situation I am in. If I was really excited and not thinking straight then I would probably have used "exactly" but if I was happy and calm then I would probably have used "just what I wanted..." But I think I ended up spelling for word "just" because I do not know sign for it. I am not type of person who tends to use one language a lot. My brain always work in two languages all the time. It's just that way it is for me. Of course because of that, I ended up being weak on both languages. What about "just go..."?

I think ONLY is redundant in there. I NEED ONE-MORE is fine. (Or ONE-MORE, I NEED, depending on how you like your sentence structure.)
Or if you must have the "only" concept in there I would sign it I NEED ONLY-ONE MORE. (ONLY-ONE is signed...hmm...kind of like a J but with the index finger, if that makes sense.) I do, actually just got back into it for the first time in a while. That toon, Interpretrator, is long gone, though. |

Thanks, now I understand what you're saying.
so it should come out something like I NEED ONLY-ONE MORE. Perhaps using the ONLY for when I am stressing I need just one more item. Thanks again.

I guess the same sign, for "only." But you're attempting to translate English into ASL and it doesn't work word-for-word. I would make "just--go" (a frustrating comand to go) with a frustrated expression and then this sign:
