There's been a lot of attention to a new kind of sign language.

People Sign Language by Melissa Regas.

This has sparked a lot of hate mail and death threats from the ASL extremists who misundsrstand it's intended to replace ASL. I dont see it that way. I dont see it as a language to replace ASL . I see it as a language that could be understandable by the global deaf community like Esperanto.

I commend Melissa Regas for her bravery going through this gauntlet from the ASL extremists.

:dizzy: The Wright Brothers never had it so good; this (PSL) will never get off the ground!

You never cease to amaze me, Richard.:stupid:

If we're going to support PSL, then we should come up with a spoken language that the whole world must follow.

POCK RERT WA BEA NER!

*translation to English*

WELCOME TO ALLDEAF!

my comment for PSL:

:rl: :spam: :smash: :locked: :fu2: :madfawk: :fu: :thumbd: :bump: :iough:
*translation*

"Whoever signs PSL should be shot!"
"Whoever tries to get people to sign PSL should be banned for spamming!"
"I'd hit whoever signs PSL!"
"PSL signers should be locked up!"
"Fuck you PSL signers!" *grumpy*
"Fuck you PSL signers!" *mad*
"Fuck you PSL signers!" *feeling good*
"I don't like PSL!"
"Signing PSL? Get out of my way!"
"Hi everyone! Eh? A PSL signer? Bye!"

WOW.. I am no expert but I never equated the position of the sign in relation to the body as having anything to do with social status. This sounds like an insecure female to me. :dunno: Seriously, does anyone know the origin of the placement of signs in ASL and did they in fact imply social status?

The male sign is supposedly for the hats that men and boys wore, whereas the female sign is supposedly for the bonnet strings women used to tie their bonnets on.

That's what I thought. So why is this woman claiming that it's because of male domination?

Ignorance? Boredom? I've seen more proficient signers than she, that's for sure.

I know that in my case I know it because when I was learning sign language, I would often ask "why is that the sign?" Sometimes there was an answer, sometimes there wasn't--but such is the case in all languages.

She is simply a feminist, trying to dominate male by tellig them what to sign and what not to sign! RME!!!

It's just like the women who want to change English words:

manhole = personhole (sounds nasty)

history = herstory

spokesman = spokesperson

man hours = person hours

. . . and heaven forbid a man holds open the door for one of them!
