Are you good at reading fast ASL? (short video)
I hoping someone here is good at reading fast ASL signing with a lot of letters and can tell me all that is being said by the guy in this video:
YouTube - The Chocolate Factory It's really fast and hard to read, but I think he spells out RACHEL, and maybe APOLLOCANDY in the first 10 seconds. He may also spell out GLYPH at some point and give a weird code (random letters and numbers from the glyph symbol on his tshirt.) It is this code or a hint where to find a glyph that is readable that I am hoping for. Please reply here or send me a PM with anything you can read from the video. Any help would be appreciated! Thank you! This 39 second video is part of the LOST TV show "The Experience" game they are running this summer. If you are interested in it, you can read more about it over on thefuselage.com forums. |

Ok, I asked because I was in the deaf chat chatroom this morning and someone in there asked me the same request you did.....but the link they gave me did not work. So I thought maybe it was you, I guess not.

The video is really hard to read. I've tried pausing and taking it a letter at a time, but it goes really fast and is pretty blurry at times. Also, it does not help that I do not know ASL signs, so I am limited to the alphabet and numbers.
There are a few signs that look really clear and someone who knows ASL would be able to read them, I think. One looks like a "A" with one hand touching the palm to a single index finger of the other hand. Well, anyway, if someone wants to take a shot at translating this 39 second video into english, that would be very cool: YouTube - The Chocolate Factory |

Well, thank you all very much for trying! I know it is hard to see, even if you are an expert at ASL, the video is too small and blurry.
There are a few signs that might be able to be understood, but I'm not sure how to describe them very well. One looks like the letter 'A' with one hand hitting the single index finger of the other hand. Another looks like he flicks all his fingers out to the sides with both hands. One more looks like he is making two fists with thumbs up and shaking them up and down side by side. I think I will go through the slow version and try to pick out the letters one at a time. |

I was able to enchance it to a full frame in order to see the sign but however, when I enchanced the video the picture became a little bit blurry... I was able to understand the sign but not the fingerspelling. The fingerspelling is VERY sloppy and hard to read. I am a native signer but this is a video gone bad.
Here's what I got so far from recepting the video, It's the best I could do to translate it - friend of rachel, me Mel Apollo undy can't fool mate lerk have chemist running test on dfsdd cemend always important but sytearar can't hate that competition large argument, something like that. That's the best I could get from seeing the video. I hope that will be somewhat a bit of a help to you. Good Luck. Would anyone else be happy to make an input to this as well?

Yeah, The fingerspelling is what I had a hard time trying to figure out because of the quality of the video that happened to be blurry when it was on the full screen (also on the small screen too) and also the white part of the shirt was hard to be seen as well like you mentioned.

friend of rachel me mel apollo candy first fool mittlewerk have chemist running test on dfsd centered (spelling across the whitepart on the shirt, which is what I couldn't get) Important but systerar can't hate competition large argument (Again, fingerspelling across the white part on the shirt) with spora (fingerspelling spora - I was trying to make sense out of it). That's the best I could get from the video.

Thanks Jolie 77! My friends on thefuselage.com (where I post as QuinceTheCarpenter), think that "Mel" is an important clue. I totally forgot there was a character named Mel0Drama that posted some clues awhile back in "The Experience."
I wonder why you have "systerar" but the other translation gives "Mittelwerk" again. His full name is Thomas Werner Mittelwerk. "spora" is interesting too - it might relate to some white flowers that showed up that had something to do with life extension/healing. Well, anyway, thanks for the help! |

I understand some of the signing and the spelling was sloppy. I can't even understand his spelling. This has to be the worst signing video ever! I almost have no idea what he was saying. I hate when they don't show his head and it looks like someone got his head cut off.
