I have been wearing ha since age 2 1/2 everyone in my family is hearing im the only one both sides. Im struggling with even wanting to wear the ha and rather use asl. I have had such high goals and can't achieve because of hearing and safety policies. How can I be who I am and be confident. People get frustrated when need repeat what they say or because i don't speak loud enough. I feel lost and live life everyone else wants me to live.

I would think that companies would have measures in place so hearing and safety policies would not be an issue. Sound usually gets to the ears after the visual clue. I understand not wanting to wear ha. They can be some help, though still missing information/words you are still excluded. God has been with me throughout my life and I continue in prayer and study the Bible to draw and keep close to Him. Walking with our Creator and learning to enjoy your own company, using alone time to learn and explore helps for solitude. Otherwise feel isolated and 'alone' of people. Many people want to be astronauts. They pursue this and continue to pursue. They at least are working in their desired field. Some may find a different work in chosen field or discover some other work pleasing and satisfying for them. When we give it our all and very best need no regrets. We all have a 'when' and that tells us a change is needed. I get a headache trying to figure a balance for communication. Without a cane, people may not know a person has unclear sight. I figure HoH/Deaf similar. Signing let's people know we communicate visually. How people respond is whole other issue. Most often people think hearing aids mean person can hear. Why is there not more happening to Educate people it is not so and verbal communication especially a group setting excludes visual communicators. Being thankful for all the good in my life keeps me focusing on good. All the junk is heavy and I choose not to carry it. Trying can be tiring so a break is needed to regroup and gather strength to continue. Hope this helps.

Forgive me for how this sounds but I have always wanted to join military but cannot and gave up on other goals because I wanted to do something so great and feel I failed so why hear when I cannot do something people say I would have done well for. It helps what you said.

You are like my son, currently 4, he is the only deafie in our entire family and wears HA. If you were my child and told me you want to do without HA and just use sign I would tell you to go for it. We hearing parents have the best of intentions and want what is best for our kids, but at the end of it all we are not you. You have to decide what you want in your life and go for it. You will never be content if you feel that you are living for others and not yourself. Set goals and go for it. Good luck!

It is hard to say it but im in my adult years and too late to make big changes like not wearing the ha and just sign. It would not go well
