Hey y'all! I was looking for the old thread of the same nature, but it when I rejoined (I had an older account), it seemed that no one's posted on it in forever anyway, and now I can't even find it, so :blah:


Anyway, I actually had a quick question, and pardon the French: How would you sign "half-assed"? I can't find any synonyms for it in my dictionaries, so I came here. :wave:

I really appreciate any help given! :ty:
 
With your hand sweeping down do a quick 1 change to 2 ( thats your fraction).
In the same downward motion point to your ass.

Not saying no one uses the literal sign, not saying there's no other sign for it, but I'd do the following:

1st: use negation: describe doing whatever it is with full intention, maybe use signs like focus and try (eyebrows up) then sign no. Then describe whatever the action is that's being done half-assed, and do it with a "whatever" kind of facial expression, make your movements slightly more slack, etc. Maybe stick your tongue out slightly.

In the process of describing that, it occurs to me that you could use the sign for careless as well. 2 V handshapes (at face level height) facing each other but slightly offset, alternating moving back and forth (rotate arm at elbow) toward center. Tongue should be slightly out.

Do the sign for whatever task you're referring to as being half assed with the appropriate non-manual signs to indicate it being done sloppily?
