Police arrest Port St. Lucie woman for neglect after DCF investigation

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - A Port St. Lucie woman faces a charge of elderly neglect after police responded to an 'unsanitary, filthy' home in which she lived with her 91-year-old mother.

According to an incident report from Port St. Lucie police, an officer was called to the 22-hundred block of Franklin Street following a Department of Children and Families investigation.

The responding officer said he detected a strong odor of cat urine when he entered the home and noticed feces throughout the house as well as garbage, and rotten food.

The officer described the conditions as unsanitary, unsafe and unlivable.

In addition, the refrigerator was packed with rotten food.

Three cats living in the home were removed.

Police arrested Roberta Bamonte, 49, and charged her with elderly neglect.

DCF placed Bamonte's mother into a home operated by the state.

It's not the first time police were called to the home.

"About a year ago DCF was out there where Port St. Lucie police did come out to investigate," said Port St. Lucie Police spokesman Tom Nichols. He said at that time promises were made to clean the house up.
