ASL Swearing 101

Need to learn a few more useful ASL "conflict resolution" words? It was a trip seeing all these people tell of their fave swear sign.

Interesting, but I thought it was BSL with "wanker" and "piss off" which no one uses in America.

Bassist, just for clarification, do you know ASL at all? I hope you're not saying that was ASL in the clip.

Not to the extent to fully communicate, I dropped learning ASL as it was never used, I am only around hearing people, and two, I use a CI. Since the vid was labeled ASL, I assumed it was, but this is for entertainment purposes only. If another form of sign was used, consider it learning such words from another sign format.

Ok, sure, understood. I watched most of the clip and saw only foreigners, mostly Brits, who of course, sign much differently than our ASL, PSE, etc....

That was not Asl. I agree with the other poster, it looked a lot like BSL. Guy looked like a hearie to me too.

Yep, I suspected it was. I don't know Bsl, but I can recognize that when I see it.

They weren't hearing. They are deaf... and BSL is similar to my AUSLAN language

Okay, as a "hearie" who has been immersing myself in Deaf Culture and learning ASL to the best of my abilities, it can be fun to learn all the swear words too, but I take offense at the above quote. I am getting tired of some deaf people claiming they want more hearing people to know sign language- make it easier in airports etc...if more hearing people who interact with the public can also sign...then when we take a completely real interest in learning the language, we might be ignored at Deaf events, or made fun of, or referred to as a "stupid hearie". As a hearing person with nothing but love, support and admiration for ASL and Deaf culture, that makes me sad. Just because there are many ignorant hearing people doesn't mean we all are. Please respond.

Hmm... interesting!! I will have to check if someone made a similar video in ASL later, or if there's no such video, maybe someone else or I could try making one.
