I want to learn ASL, but I need help

Hey, my name is Taylor. I'm a student that loves to study languages. But sign language, for some reason, is a bit more challenging. I would like to have some help as I learn this language. I have a friend at school that was born deaf and he's a great guy. I can't understand most of the things he tries to say. I have to have him write everything down, which isn't fun for either of us. Is there anyone that can help me via Skype?
