Hello Everyone,

I was at our Art Museum today (The Ringling Museum of Art in Sarasota), and I asked if any of the docents gave tours in ASL. I was told it would be possible to arrange for a interpreter, but that they do not have docents who also sign ASL. The interpreter would be at the patron's expense and a minimum of 2 weeks notice was required to arrange for a "private tour". The person I spoke with had no idea what the cost would be and that is between the patron and interpreter.

What a shame!

It got me to wondering if anyone knows of any art museums that provide ASL/docent tours. I suppose a person could be satisfied with the little label next to paintings. But, it doesn't seem as rich an experience if a person wanted to know more detail about the art.

I wish I knew the answer. One would think large exhibits, like art museums and galleries, and even the zoo in NYC would have a docent or two.
