Position: Video Relay Services (VRS) Interpreter
Job Location: Silver Spring, Maryland

This position is a first shift VRS Interpreter; scheduled between the hours of 6:30- am-6:30 pm (specific hours and days to be determined by BIS,) in the Silver Spring, MD call center which is just outside the Washington, DC line. Preference is given to current BIS employees who possess appropriate qualifications.

The VRS team is an outstanding group of superlative interpreters with a strong dedication to customer service and quality interpretation. The VRS Interpreter will work closely with others to uphold BIS’ philosophy of service, providing and receiving feedback on an ongoing basis. The VRS interpreter will be able to work independently but will have opportunities to team and interact with other interpreters. The VRS TEAM is constantly adapting to new technologies and accepting new challenges in the high tech field of video relay service.

Job Responsibilities:
• Provide sign-to-voice and voice-to-sign interpretation/transliteration for deaf and hearing video relay callers working as a video interpreter
• Uphold Hamilton Relay VRS philosophy of service
• Ensure outstanding customer service
• Commit to ongoing professional and skill development
• Provide peer observations

Education & Experience:
• Ability to effectively communicate in American Sign Language (ASL)
• B.A. or higher or five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education or experience
• RID Certification (CI, CT, CI/CT, CSC) or NAD (V)
• Preferred 5-10 years working experience as a certified sign language interpreter in a variety of settings
• NAD level IV/V, or RID :CI, CT, CI/CT, CSC or
• Hold a state interpreter certificate at the Intermediate or Master Certificate skill levels or
• Have the professional interpreting experience to become a Hamilton Relay VRS interpreter, as determined by VRS Supervisory team
• Excellent voicing skills and a good understanding of Deaf culture
• Experience with video interpreting preferred

• $1,000.00 Sign-on bonus for certified interpreters after 60 days for new employees of BIS (does not apply to internal employees)
