Hi I'm kayla I'm 19 and hard of hearing. I do pretty well when people look at me to talk. I never really had the chance to learn how to sign. But I'm an adult now and my hearing gets worse every year. I've been watching this show switched at birth to kinda help me learn and I got some books and apps. I definitely see how hard it is to learn a new language expecially on your own. I thought since I'm going deaf why not learn more about the community. If you know ways I could do that it would be helpful.

hey Kayla! I'm 19 too, and hard of hearing. my left ear has a total loss, but my right is ok, but isn't good ha. I grew up with sign language so if you want any help or if you want a friend, that would be nice. let me know.

Hi!
I'm 20, started losing my hearing due to constantly being around jets without proper hearing protection. I'd wear it but I have to somewhat hear what's going on...
I find learning ASL fun! I'm learning it by myself but I like the challenge

Are you in college? Would you like to attend? You could always attend Gallaudet, NTID, CSUN or another school with a strong Deaf population, so you could easily pick up ASL! I totally would opt for that since that way you could learn by immersion.... http://www.gallaudet.edu/, http://www.ntid.rit.edu/, http://www.csun.edu/ I'm wondering...... You might be able to go to some Deaf Camps/retreats etc.......http://www.gallaudet.edu/clerc_cent...ources/info_to_go/resources/summer_camps.html
Wish you had joined sooner! You could have taken advantage of a Deaf school or a dhh program, when you were in high school......and DUDE, having a progressive loss/having the possibility of progressive loss is the number one GOOD reason why HOH kids should learn ASL as a second language!

My situation is similar. I'm 19 and hard of hearing. It recently happened. If you'd like to talk, let me know. :) I just finished my second ASL class. I can help.
