It wouldn't surprise me if it backfired the next season. Usually when mega deals are signed, that player tends to struggle. Very few have made it through a mega deal unscathed. Jeter was one. Matt Holiday is another one-- so far.
 
The White Sox sure got off to an early start in Phoenix with a deal and a trade. They got Jeff Samardzija from Oakland, and signed David Robertson from New York. They also have Adam LaRoache, and Zack Duke, as well. I think they're gonna go for it next season.

As for the Cubbies, will they win the Jon Lester sweepstakes? That's coming up soon.
 
And the winner of the Jon Lester sweepstakes is........ The Chicago Cubs!! 6 years and $155 million, with a 7th year optional. That, coupled with the White Sox, should make for a very fun Central next season. :P
