Every bargain hunter and thrift shop enthusiast dreams of finding a gem with an unbelievably cheap price tag. Zach Norris is no exception.
Norris was at a Goodwill in Phoenix, Arizona, looking for a used push-pull golf cart. However, according to Hodinkee, he stopped to look at the store’s basket of watches. He noticed a watch, face down, priced at $5.99, but the label, which read “LeCoultre Deep Sea Alarm,” caught his eye.
Norris knew the watch, which was made by Jaeger-LeCoultre, was probably worth more than the price tag. However, he didn’t realize the LeCoultre Deep Sea Alarm was made circa 1959 and worth more than $35,000

Less than 1,000 of the watches were made for the American market and it was among the first watches with alarms for use by divers. Though Norris’ find does have some minor damage and the luminous material has faded slightly, the watch was verified by Oliver Smith Jeweler in Scottsdale, Arizona, an authorized Jaeger-LeCoultre retailer.
The watch still has most of its original parts, except for a replaced time crown at the 4 o’clock mark.
Norris’ luck was largely due to good timing- the watch had been placed for sale in the store just a day before. Though he did not find his golf cart, he sold the watch to fellow watch enthusiast and noted Rolex dealer Eric Ku.
Norris plans to use the money to buy an Omega Speedmaster professional and use the remaining funds for his upcoming wedding.
