Would you be interested in Deaf Friendly bank :deaf::deaf::deaf:? Supposed if a major bank decided to add a deaf division. Similar to Spanish division. Would you be interested to use their services? :thumb:

Supposed if the bank decided to add videophone customer services. Would you be interested? :thumb:

Supposed if the bank decided to add full services for all kinds of financial needs. Mortgage, Car loan, Personal Loan, Student loans? Would you be interested? :thumb:

What a deaf friendly bank means to you? Please type down your wildest dream of what deaf friendly bank would looks like? :thumb::thumb::deaf:

Think of all details you can possible dream of. Remember we have videophone as one major tool of access.

Type away... :type:

Is there a credit card application from Deaf Bank? If so, how many interest do you provide?

Back to topic... That really depends where the bank is located.

If I am well-known in the deaf community where the bank is located, probably not due to privacy reasons. For example... John Doe Jr., the president of Deaf National Bank of New Jersey didn't like me and decided to reveal to his buddies that I have a million in his bank.

I mean if Bank of America developed a deaf division team.

A division designed for the deaf. A huge bank that willing to provide services in ASL. Not some local bank starting small from scratch. I mean from national wide adding service to deaf community.

We do not need local bank, we need a national bank that is internet based services. If your credit card is stolen, would you call to a hearing customer service or would you rather to call ASL customer service. A deaf to deaf communication fully and report your stolen credit card anytime 24 hours notice.

Or if you need a car loan, you can call specific number at a bank and discuss about getting car loan.

Or if you need a personal loan, you can call specific number to and see if you qualify for one.

It can be any major bank such as Wells Fargo, Chase, Citibank, Bank of America, Wachovia, US Bank etc... Those are the bank giants.

Let look at Wells Fargo's spanish communication website. Wells Fargo in Espanol

Look at Bank of America's Spanish website too... Bank of America in Espanol

Look at Citibank's spanish website too... Citi - en español

Why not add a deaf service division at one of those major bank? You can walk into their retail building and ask for videophone and contact deaf service division at the bank. It can be anywhere.

Think big... location does not matter anymore.

That is determined by policy of the bank. If the policy does not allow other employee to browse other customer's profiles, then your data is protected. You can sue the bank if your confidentiality is broken.

There is a deaf-run bank in Wisconsin -- the bank is called Lake Shore Bank,

Too small concept. Need to think national wide. That is my opinion. I live 5 hours away and dont want to drive to that bank to deposit and withdraw cash.

I rather to have Wells Fargo or US Bank for its less than 1 block away. No fee on ATM. With Lake Shore bank, I believe there will be a fee everytime you use ATM anywhere that not Lake Shore Bank's affiliated ATM (they don't have one yet or afford affiliated). Still early for them.

Its not a deaf bank, but a bank that provide full ASL services to deaf community anywhere via internet/videophone. If you wanted to get a credit card with Bank of America, you call customer services that can sign in ASL for you instead of using VRS or using tty.

That simple. They discuss with you and then see if you approved for a credit card. All bank have various interest rate for specific FISCO. So if you have good Credit Score, you will get low interest rates.

Depends.....

Where will it be at?

Anywhere - if Bank of America then where ever their banks are. Or anywhere there is videophone you can call Bank of America.

You can take advantage of online banking to pay your bills at few clicks and free mailing bills service.

We are now entering internet based bank services.

Yes, I would be interested. Also, the deaf division would hire deaf people. Create more job opportunities and career growth for deaf people since there is so much discrimination out there.

Indeed... exactly. If they develop a deaf service division in major bank. Then that opens more job opportunities for everyone national wide. Everything is done by Internet means a location does not matter at this point. As long we can provide full services of all kinds.

I am thinking about videophone customer services means need to hire many deaf to work. Or as mortgage banker. Or as car loan specialist. Or as personal loan specialist. You name it, they will come out with it.

List more ideas... I want to see more ideas out of this. What we have thought of...

1. Videophone customer services
2. Each branches Bank to add videophone conference room
3. Various types of loan services - car, personal, student, mortgage, etc..

That top 3 ideas we have come up with but want to see if there are more ideas to add to the list.

Right now there is an emerging deaf non-profit organization that will focus on financial issues such as credit score rehabilitation, workshop on awareness of financial issues, how to invest money, or even foreclosure prevention center etc... All designed to help ASL community as long communication is needed. They are not officially ready to announce about their services as they are pending get grants etc...

I need more ideas from you all about what else needed to add.

I am even thinking in 5-10 years plan to go international level and create more deaf services division in as many countries as possible. Create more jobs and awareness cross the globe. Think that a good idea?

Oh. Bank of America? Does it have to be BOA or any other bank?

I don't believe this would be something new. There are/were several deaf-friendly banks in Knoxville, Tenn., where the deaf community is fairly-sized. They had phone numbers for TTY/TDD only and some of the employees knew sign languages.

How much money do you think a bank will profit from this? The reason I ask is that a bank will do anything if it can profit from it. Most banks are experimenting with unmanned branches now, they also have robust online banking where you can request everything you mentioned and still live 1000 miles away. In 5-10 years manned branches will start to decline if they exist at all. I work in the IT department for Toronto Dominion (TD Bank) and I see alot of cool things coming down the pipe for all sorts of customers, deaf, blind etc..

I am so glad you brought this up,,,,I had the most frustrating time with BOA just now and I am not exaggerating, I spent over 1 hour and 45 minutes on the VCO with relay operator,,, they either switched me to Calif. cust. service rep. when I am have both accounts and am dealing with my FL account,...then they hung up on me and the operator 4 times after waiting and going through the whole process of identifying myself,,which each time I had to identify myself,,, I was so so so frustrated at them I had to take a nap and go through the phone system again with relay after I had gained my composure. So,, the lack of knowledge of use with VCO is really lacking with them,,because they just very quickly switched me over and over again to Calif. account. without giving me chance to explain the problem is in FL So, when I called the last time..I said Please do not switch me to Calif. customer service! My problem only became so what resolved after all this.

Not really...

I usually go for whatever bank provides the best features, not whether they can sign or are full of deafies. :)

I would rather go to a national bank that has a deaf employee than a local bank that is full of deaf employees. Just my opinion. :dunno:

I am not going to reveal how much bank will profit from this kind of services. That is internal information. I am just promoting the idea and see any feedbacks.

Your background fascinates me. What do you mean cool things coming down the pipe for all sorts of customers? Can you explain more?
