When someone says, "God spoke to me", do you believe them?

Bush is first person that comes to my mind. He claimed that God spoke to him and inspired him to go to Iraq War. Christians believed that John was the last person God spoke to. Mormon believed God sent angel to speak for him to tell Mormon people to write a book after bible. However, Christians called Mormon people bunch of lairs. hmm....

I am sure you have heard in news or somewhere that person claimed that "God spoke to me". What was your reaction to that?

I believe that God speaks to us through the Bible today. I dont think He interacts with humans directly since the Bible was complete. However, I do believe he does things behind the scenes in order to help his people or to help people to get to know God so they can be saved through people.

Me too. I would laugh my ass off if someone say that. But at the same time it can be very dangerous.

Laney began to see "signs." Her fourteen-month-old son, Aaron, was playing with a spear. That was the first signal from God that she was to do something to her children.

Good question, Lumbingmi.

When someone says, "God spoke to me", do you believe them?

It's depend on what kind of sitatution that I can tell what a person says; believe in or not. :)

This is something that's always considered controversial.

Back then, if someone claimed that God spoke to him/her... everyone would be shocked and amazed.

Today, if someone claimed that God spoke to him/her... that person would be locked up in a mental hospital.

Lock them in a mental hospital or Jail :thumb:

No

Feeble excuse and pathetic to use God.

Yes, I am surprised after learn those from AD forum.

I am sure you have heard in news or somewhere that person claimed that "God spoke to me". What was your reaction to that?

My reaction is:

Yes, it's common to know that the people who suffers schizophrenic is murders and serial killers. They often said that they don't know why they killed the victims - it was like "wake up" for them and claimed that they heard God's voice telling them to kill, eat, burnt victims, etc. I can't say that I beleive them because I am not in their shoes but all what I would say that they suffers schizophrenia.

I remember reading that a long time ago. It is hard to believe that God would tell a leader that he must wage war and lie/deceive his people and the world about the real purpose of the war.

From what I recall, Bush claims he converses with God every night. To me, this implies that he has a conversation with God as if God is listening/talking to him as a person. I wouldn't be surprised if Bush was actually conversing with one of his other personalities.

I believe that people who claim they have spoken to God, are either crazy or under the influence of something. This is not to say that God does not exist, and God does not communicate. I just know that so many people have committed horrendous acts whilst saying something like, "God told me to do it!"

Something do with his personality disorder if the claim about Bush is really true.

I agree. and when someone trying to get out of trouble like when they go to court or something they play the "God spoke to me " crap.

For those that think it's "crap" that "God spoke to you", maybe it's because you don't allow God to speak to you?????

I agree with Secretblend because I don't think it literally happens (audibly). :giggle:

I had an assistant working in the psych lab with me a couple of years ago that said to me, "God told me" this or that. I finally asked her, do you mean that you understood that God wanted you to do something based on your understanding of God. Her reply was, "No, he actually told me. I heard his voice." :squint: I found that a little disturbing.
