"The Cross and the Switchblade" - My step-father

Thank you for explainin' what your strongly belief is.
Yes, I understand about respectin' people for their different beliefs, but I still feel that it's my duty to spread the gospel when Jesus commanded us to do. It doesn't mean that I shove the bible down in their throats like for some people would think. It's just that I like to tell it until they tell me that they don't want to hear about it...then, I will stop and move on to elsewhere. ( You sow what you reap - that's another famous quote ). If, they like to discuss and learn, then I will continue to share and discuss together. I don't want them to think about ME, sayin' like my "religion" is better than theirs or whatever their religion is. All I want them to think about JESUS and how HE died for them and that HE loves them so much. He would love to have relationship with them personally. That's all there's to it - and, have them to chose their own church whichever is more comfortable for them to attend.

I grew up in Catholic church with my biological parents - in New York City where I was born from. From there, I attended a private school ( Catholic ) for a few years until my parents divorced ... I was like probably about 5 years old. And, after that we moved to Fresno, California - changed to different church after my mother remarried to my step-father. Protestant. I grew up attendin' to that church with my family for 8 years. My step-father WAS President of Mau Maus Gang in New York City and God changed his life after he was slammed in prision for manslaughter. His sentence was reduced after he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour. God moved in his life. My step-father became a minister after he got out of jail. David Wilkerson was the one who won my step-father's soul to Christ. Nicky Cruz was my step-father's best pal and he was Vice President. Nicky Cruz still preached and worked on helpin' with troubled teens in North Carolina state. The book called "The Cross and the Switchblade" - both of my step-father and Nicky Cruz were in that book to tell their story. My step-father wrote a book "Second Chance" - my siblings and I were in that book ( small details ).

I would love to tell more, but I am afraid it will go off topic since Vampy said to stick with the topic what Lieblin' want all of us to discuss about "self-esteem/low self-esteem" ... Gee - Lieblin', I apologized again. *smh at myself* lol I just want to share it with Cookie Monster and for her to get to know me a little bit...and errr umm YOU, too.

CM ! You have a great day and stay your true love to Chris.

( Understandin' this, this is NOT On-topic debates )

Question

Nicky Cruz still in the ministry? Wow, that's a testimony, but, I hope he has moved beyond the gangs and tells of all God has done for him. Remember, we need to keep pointing people to the Saviour. What's Nicky's website?

I saw the movie "The Cross and the Switchblade" years ago....actor Erik Estrada (he played Ponch on TV's "CHiPs" in the 1980s) was one of the stars on that movie, and I think he played Nicky Cruz, the leader of the gang. It was a really good movie.

Yes, he is still in the ministry. Surprised ? He is still in the ministry for over 40 years. I met his wife in 1970's. His wife named Gloria. They have their own children - all girls, no boys.

I don't mind off-topic though. :-) You've a remarkable testimony about your stepfather. Thank Lord for saving him and still ministry to the teens. Teens need Christ in their lives. Your stepfather wrote the book "Second Chance" seems kind of familiar from what I heard.

Thanks CR for sharing your personal experiences in this thread with fellow ADers. It is quite nice to have someone related out of the "Cross and the Switchblade" share personal experiences and answer questions.

You are welcome.
Nicky Cruz and his family are now resided in New York City. From the last time I heard he was in North Carolina to help with troubled teens and shared his "gang" experience with them and how he found Christ in his life. He traveled in many places.

My step-father is Israel. He is still in the ministry. He resided in West Coast. He remarried and had 3 sons ... 2 daughters from previous marriage ( my mother ). I will explain about my mother's situation a little bit in Lieblin's thread. It related to "self-esteem".

Here's the link I would like to share with you and other fellow ADers.

I wonder if your step-father became christian, quit gang and then later married your mother? Or was it during your mother's marriage to him? I will want to watch the movie "The Cross and the Switchblade." Does Blockbuster carry those movies?

sorry it's off topic here about other thread since I want to tell you about the bible's authors, I think Jesus chose his 12 apostles, and told them to write books about him after his death, half of them like Peter, Luke, Matthew, Mark kept their promised.

Jesus chose them to become his biography authors!!

whoops here!!

It's scriptures, Jesus's choose his 12 apostles to write, not image words what the authors translate from scriptures.

Sorry

Sorry
I think she means someone else's thread, not your thread. I think the thread is "Where does God come from originally ?" That's where I mentioned about apostles/disciples in there.

I met Nicky Cruz back in 1991, IIRC. He preached in Detroit, in the Clark Park area (SW Detroit). I ate lunch with him, my Pastor and several others. I'm not sure if his wife was there. He preached good!

Thanks, Y,

I heard a number of years ago that David Wilkerson felt he was losing the ministry and noticed how materialistic he was getting and sold off all his antique car collection and moved right back into NYC itself. CyberRed, is this true?

Also, didn't know Nicky was in Nigeria a few days ago. If I had known, would have told my fiancee' there to go hear him, as that's where she lives.

Also, does Nicky Cruz allow volunteers to accompany him to foreign countries?

I have no clue honestly. I don't really pay attention to David Wilkerson about what happened to him. I wish I knew.

Also, didn't know Nicky was in Nigeria a few days ago. If I had known, would have told my fiancee' there to go hear him, as that's where she lives.

Where did you find that information about foreign countries ? All I know that he preached all different states in the USA - but to foreign countries ?
