I do not see any option for Sorenson

Why Spanish option? What's wrong with Italian? French? Chinese? Japanese?

Damn lazy Hispanic people do not motivate to learn our U.S. English language....

Qwerty, why should I add extra info? Deafies/HHs/CIs know how to search the info...

Ahem, I gotta to agree with you on this one! If these spanish speaking people want to move up and live here... Expecting us to learn their spanish language? We didn't choose for them to move up here, *THEY* chose to move up here and they OUGHT to learn English, PERIOD! If we want to move to Mexico, then it is our job to learn their language and not expecting them to learn ours. I was jumpy when Prez Bush declared English as an offical language! About funkin time!

Oh boy! Mookie, not all hispanic people are lazy. There are lazy people in all races. That whole argument can be made for the deaf community as well. You know, the hard core ASL'ers that don't think they should have to learn engilsh. I personally wouldn't say that but I can see how someone could argue that it's similar.

Yea, but them Indians are better than spanish speaking people, because they was willing to learn english! They haven't forced us to learn their language. Aha, their language STILL do exist but very transparent.

hey hey hey....... come on knock it off! they can choose thier own langague to speak and if they have family members who's native langague is of that langague then so be it, we respect our own culture why don't you respect thiers!! this is ABOUT thier choice not the laziness of it! Sheesh some of you need to stop and think, many of these people may have families who are old fashioned and perfer to speak in the langague they were raised on, that's just fine with us, the more we learn the better we respect many of the communities culture!

did you know that hawaiians also have thier own langague? did you know that hawaiians don't speak the typical langague? Do you see us belittling them? no!!! we respect the poeple and thier culture and if this happens to be thier langaugue of choice then let them live thel ife they choose, america is about respecting all walks of life so quit bashing them down!

It is not the point. The point is... plenty of spanish-speaking who moved up here EXPECTS and DEMANDS from us that we learn spanish, or accomodate their language. I don't believe we would have any problem as long as those people respect and became willing to learn English, then we can respect their language back.
Yes, I know Hawaiian have their own language, Mahalo for reminding us!

If you want to force people to who live in AMERICA to use ENGLISH, then let's start with the Deaf Community. Let's all stop signing and speak, write, and go back to TTY's instead of using ASL.

We of ALL people should respect a group's right to use THEIR NATIVE language instead of being forced to use English.

No, I don't mean to force them, but we feel that they forced us. That is what I am trying to say. Have you heard some spanish-speaking people had protested that there isn't enough spanish around public areas, etc... WTF? We can't accomodate every possible language.
You went off the point with ASL,

I love the Latin people. They are very hard workers with strong family values and they take care of their own and even those that aren't. I know this from personal experience. To me, the bottom line is that this is a very diverse country and that's one of the things that makes us good. Sure there are idiots in all walks of life but that doesn't mean a given heritage should be generalized. People need to view others as brother and sister human beings and stop with the prejudice and stereotyping. Those of you that are deaf should be able to realate with this issue of communication. It's very simiilar for someone that is deaf or someone that can't speak english to communicate. You have to put yourself in their shoes. Personally, if I moved to a country where there was another language, I would make it a priority to learn the native language instead of expecting the natives to learn my language. Just my opinion.

Every time I go to McDonald's and the Hispanic employees do not understand my English written order. How did they apply the opening positions by themselves or with help?

Rockdrummer, why don't you pretend to be a deafie and write the order at any fast food restaurant? Tell me how do you feel?

I'm sure that happens mookie but it doesn't happen all of the time everywhere. Maybe you should stop eating that mcdonalds food and toss yourself a salad once and a while to eat healthy....

Take a look at this;

See why we're not displaying the videophone at our OC-Fair booth this year.

That video makes some outlandish statements. There's not an interpreter shortage, per se. VRS companies pay interpreters for what they're worth. Many agencies do not. Many agencies pay interpreters late. Why would an interpreter put up with late pay and low rate when VRS pays on time and a good wage?

I think when interpreting agencies wake up and pay better and pay on TIME, interpreters will be more willing to come back to the community.

Agree here... I would do the same thing if I move to
another country I would show respect to their country
and learn their native language. Respect goes both ways.

Same thing if we switch & reverse this back to this country here;
when outsiders move into this country, I hope they will
show respect and learn our English language here.
Again, Respect goes both ways.

The facts we have here are hospitals, social service agencies, and IEP counselors are making panic calls to us for help in finding interpreters because they cant find any as there seems to be no one available to help them.

This was as recent as 2 days ago. The fact here is we have an interpreter shortage and the VRS industry is exacerbating it.

Javapride, you do know nothing.

That happened to me twice this year when I received a few calls from the management training company in DC that ASL terps could not come.

Richard is right....
