I'm not crying wolf!

Schools always pay at the minimum so it is a simple money talk.

I was thinking along those lines too, Biker. I was wondering if people can use cell phones with cameras as 'terp boxes for local jobs. So you call into the VRS service and you sign into your cell phone camera, and the 'terp on the other end talks through your cell phone speaker to the hearing person standing right in front of you (who may even be holding the phone for you, so you can sign!). It would make doctors' appointments much more private, and eliminate waiting time for legal 'terps. So the money that would usually go to pay for on-site 'terps (state money or fees paid by title III entities under the ADA) would go to the VRS service.

Also, does anyone know if VRS services are using technology to make it possible for 'terps to work from home? That would make the profession much more attractive to lots of people, who don't want to commute.

Finally, as for the "monkeys" comment, I'm not a 'terp (being blind it's not a profession I could take up.) but I am now living and working in a foreign language for me (French), and doing some translating as part of my job. In my past lives I have provided technical help over the phone, as well as legal assistance (I worked as a lawyer before I left the U.S. because of the current administration, but that's another story). Translating is very hard. Any job that has you dealing with different subject matter every few minutes is very hard, and the skill of interpreting is very tough, especially from your native language to another one. So Understanding that 'terps make a lot of mistakes and that are plenty of disreputable ones, or those who think they're god's gift to Deaf, cut them some slack.

be well

Ahh Richard.

Tell them to match what the VRS centers are paying. Maybe even pay a little more. That’s business. I am a coda and just want to point out that I have to make a living for me and my family. I will take the best paying job out there. If cleaning your bathroom would pay me more I would go do it. Fact is many interps left the field because they could make more money doing other things.VRS brought me back into the field.

You can say this is all about the VRS providers but the fact is there was not enough terps before. If the community was paying what the terps were worth they would have never left and there wouldnt be a shortage. Fact is terps have been under paid for sometime.

Since there is such a shortage maybe you and your friends should decline using interps so that those who really need them will get them. Many out there have MLS and in the pecking order at the agencies they tend to be way down on the list since they are unable to advocate for themselves. It would be best if they got the interpreters than you and your friends. Right ?

By the way who pays you to sit here and post all day? I am sure if they knew this is what you did with their money they may not be so happy to give it to you next time.......

Yes thats true. All the interpreter here is join but not 100 percent. I could say 50 percent that lead shortage for rest of community. I happen have a interpreter who is lead of ageny yesterday. Person and I chatting about Sorenson issue and shortage interpreter. Person already expect that would happen because matter of living and health insurance that we are focus is insurance that support family and better living too. However; person is fully support whatever Sorenson do. Person said, we should welcome Sorenson into part of Oklahoma community. Without Sorenson be fit in Oklahoma or your state and people here of Oklahoma or your state will not get benefit of educate about deaf communty.

Which is it true! Too much problem with rebell getting interpreter for us due health and death by doctor or hopsital or anything thats matter need solve.

Lead ageny says they are happy have Sorenson but they lost alot good interpreter skills and accept but that will lead another interpreter look up on VRS expectly Sorenson is picky about skills important to Sorenson. Sorenson vision is all about clear the blur communicate to understand better.

Again RICHARD... who pay your electric, who pay your clothes, who pay your food, who pay your water bill. Please don't tell me you got donate from church or you went to donate blood to get money.
