I cannot believe how slow this place is. I remember back in the old days when this place was rocking, and everyone was here. Hard to believe things have changed. Wish the old members would return.....

I feel that banning was overdone sometime ago. Those people went elsewhere and friends of theirs followed. Also, restrictions on what can be posted may be a factor.

Banned people generally earn it. Common sense and courtesy goes a long way, and not just online.
I wish this place would be more active, too. It's up to us to make it more active. Shall we?

You were not here at the time. I have not changed my opinion.

The reality is that Facebook blossomed. One of the big draws here was politics, and that was closed. A bunch of folks left due to their friends being banned. Some have passed away.

It is part of life that things change. Restaurants close. Stores close. Websites fade out. I come here to read. I'm not big on posting "How's my weather?" and "What am I doing?"

How many still have MySpace?

I know it's hard to see that way.... remember back in the day where many deaf people hang out in deaf clubs... having beers, ability to hugs, warm facial expression etc.... and then the internet born. Deaf clubs turning into cobweb..... Website booming and MySpace, Facebook, AllDeaf, DeafVideo arrived. It became very popular to hang out...and it's public viewing... same for Facebook but now it can set to private, more secure... Then suddenly Instagram, WhatsApp, Glide, Marco Polo, and many other mobile visual apps became very popular and quick, easy to use that you can take it anywhere you go. Give you an instant communication about what's going on privately. Yes, AllDeaf will fade and becoming quieter... Hey, look back what happen to Deaf Club... can't live forever...

I'm not FB - hate it - what else is out there these days?
I'm looking for an active online community to get to know more deaf / hoh people.

FB is extremely popular because everything is shareable and visible plus ASL videos, too. Facebook is okay, but I enjoy IG for my interests. I only keep Facebook because I am in contact with my relatives from foreign countries.

I closed my myspace years ago because it was too much cluttered and messy. I've seen some plenty of funny profilers. The profiler was so obsessed with a movie, Sleeping with the Enemy. He created the fake profiler of Martin Burney and the background is full of Martin's faces. There were bunches of pictures under the gallery like the cupboard full of cans and his wife. The comments under fake Martin Burney were posted by Martin's wife, Laura and Ben. Crazy.

I think Alex needs to be creative with this website to get people to come here. This website has almost never changed for many years.

SR, got any idea or feedback about improving this site? any wish list?

Don't change too much too fast, just now starting to understand how this works, never did fb but think have had two accounts, now up grading my device, having problems may have to send back and get another, but will have to have fb to join ASL club, but don't look for me to be using for much else :dunno:

The website is plain. The logo needs happiness and witty! I like one of these forums- The FastLane Forum. It's articulate to read.

Maybe this website was one such way to get deaf people together. Apart from life changes, a whirlwind of fraternizing and opposing opinions led to what it is now. C’est la vie!

This is the first post in over 24 hours. I've posted a lot here over the years. I've made many friends, and maybe a few enemies. But I think I'm done lurking here.

Thanks to Alex for giving us this place for so many years. Good luck.

I'm not a facebook person. And know I can get toxic, so stayed off here a while. I miss some of the people that came, and I'm pretty dysfunctional at making friends. And I'm not really comfortable about talking about my hearing loss. It seems to bother more than it should some days. Like when I went to the park back home and realized that I couldn't hear the water babble over the rocks or a skipping rock skimming the water. Could still hear the current. I don't know what I really need to know about these things - reassurance, sympathy, or just someone to saygiphy-7.gif

I’d like to see a live chat for deaf and hard of hearing. I’ve been looking but haven’t seen anything. I’m on irc and create my own channel for deaf but I’m the only one there. Maybe a live chat section that is open all the time so people can chat with each other instead of just posting and waiting for responses.

I think there was a live chat long time ago, but it lasted briefly. I've seen plenty of situations escalating during live chat. Live chat is terrific, but it must be monitored at all times.
