Hello, I just signed up here to connect with more people in the community! I am a late-deafened person;I became Deaf around 5 years ago due to inner ear problem, but have transitioned to using ASL and enjoy it very much. I am currently living in Georgia (where I can't seem to find any Deaf people around me), and spend school year in upstate New York (where I get to be totally immersed in a great Deaf community). I am in university for ASL and Deaf studies now, and am glad to be a part of this awesome group. Thanks!
 
depends on where you are in Georgia- Atlanta has a big deaf community. I think there is a smaller one in/around Smyrna? One of my- err.. two since they're married now- friends lives there and from what I see on their FB there's some deaf who live nearby.
 
Thanks for the welcome everyone :) You are right, there is a Deaf community in Atlanta (about 2 hours away). Authentic- I laughed with your post- so true! Deaf people are everywhere and hopefully come out of hiding! I don't have a Facebook (I just can't bring myself to have one, and I'm one of the last proud people to resist it!) so that's why I came here. We will see how this works! Some very good discussions on this site and looks like very nice crowd.
 
Hi! Welcome! I'm also a late deaf. I look at the time when I lost my hearing as an anniversary celebration haha :)

What level of ASL are you currently in?
 
Welcome! I too struggle with finding deaf people in my area. I tried meetup.com but all I can find in my area are hearing people that want to practice ASL. It is nice that you are embracing ASL.
