Colin Kaepernick Refuses Stand National Anthem

for those who do not wish to be drawn into clickbait...

Colin K is a football quarterback for the SF 49ers. He recently refused to stand up during the national Anthem before a game. He explained why (related to 'bodies on the streets'- the recent goings on with police shooting ectetera) as he felt America wasn't exactly playing nice. The irony is he is biracial but adopted by a white family. He's getting a lot of blowback for what he did.

would be nice if people would quit with just posting a damn link.. I'm more leery of solo links in a thread- could be malware or something else entirely. I'll trust a link more if there was either a) a quote from the story- usually the first 1 or 2 paragraphs to entice the person to read or b) a comment by the poster- IN THE SAME POST not in the second post of the thread!

He need some attention as 49ers are planning to bench him for good.

I did not know we are required to stand for the national anthem. Seems weird for people living in the "land of the free" to critize someone who chooses to exercise his freedom to not stand for the anthem.

There is no law requiring standing respectfully for the national anthem.

Not weird at all. In the land of the free, we are allowed to exercise our First Amendment right of free speech as much as he exercises his freedom of expression.

The problem comes when people don't understand our freedoms.

I'd like for him to tell me what other country would afford him the opportunities that he has achieved here.....

Yup, he has the right do disrespect those men and women who have given their lives defending this country.....

What? Until very recently, the military has also had a very poor track record on treatment of African American personnel.

Those men and women fought for this country so we could keep our rights of free speech.

Unfortunately, he does have the right to express the first amendment, freedom of speech. Just like Reba mentioned there's no law requiring anyone to stand up during the National anthem.

He doesn't agree with country is doing for his people. Weird part , he's adopted by a white couple.
