Bsl

so I learned the BSL alphabet and greetings in BSL. It's a lot different from ASL but I think I might want to learn it. I'll be in and out of London so maybe useful.

That's cool. I've been considering learning it too. I plan to move to London next year. But I'm worried that since I'm still learning ASL, learning BSL too will confuse me too much. I'm thinking that I should stick with ASL until I get more confident and then move to BSL.

next year..wicked wicked...many Deafie in london.
learning ASL as you've been doing wont hamper your acquisition of BSL. with sign languages unlike hearie languages, once you gain fluency in one, you can quickly acquire another...even communicate with other sin a relatively short time, after meeting...thats not to state the languages are not distinct they are, its one of the strengths of visual kenetic languages.

you have nothing o worry about you really, even if your mixing some in up , i wouldn't worry.

Thanks! I just learned the BSL alphabet. I couldn't resist. It's so different but it's cool. I think I'll start picking up BSL phrases here and there. I'll just have to practice both.

yes the brit alphabet is different....it is a different language, you'll pick it up and make sure once you do become fluent to pas sit on to others..

Is BSL popular thou? I know education wise it is NOT very popular. Matter of fact two of the "big" Deaf schools there are oral. They do allow BSL out of class....but yeah Deaf ed is a MAJOR afterthought in the UK. Quite sad, as the falling through the cracks issues are the same there.

the entire idea of orlaism is de-education

the effort spent on educating in topics and subjects is in their eyes is better spent in learning to move your beak just just right..just just so, just just right..th... th ....th...ba..ba...ba..
meanwhile those hours spent on actually learning pass by, never to be regained..

It IS used but educationally, it's not popular as the kids are even more mainstreamed then in the US. And I agree with you. A child could be well versed in speech, but not in other areas like knoweldge etc. I mean my mind is STILL BLOWN by a HOH mainstreamed (who was never even exposed to ASL and deaf ed in ANY form) woman who still has difficulty with the difference between boycotted and boycotting. Mastery of speech doesn't mean that everything else will go well. And I know you know that, but just saying that for any lurkers. (and before I'm attacked, there are lurkers from both schools of thought lurking out there)
