BERLIN (AP) — The latest developments on a deadly shooting attack Friday in Munich (all times local):

___

2:25 a.m.

Munich police chief Hubertus Andraes says the suspect in the Munich shooting is an 18-year-old German-Iranian from Munich.

Andraes said at a news conference that the attacker's motive was still "fully unclear."

Andraes said that the body of the shooter found about 2 1/2 hours after the attack was determined to be the shooter based on the evaluation of witness statements and closed circuit television.

Two others who fled the area quickly were investigated but had "nothing to do with the incident"

___

1:40 a.m.

Munich police spokesman Peter Beck says 10 people were killed, including the likely attacker, in the shooting in the Bavarian capital.

Beck says investigators also believe the shooter killed himself and appears to have acted alone.

Munich police gave a "cautious all clear" early Saturday morning, more than seven hours after a gunman opened fire in a crowded shopping mall and at a nearby McDonalds

___

1 a.m.

The German news agency dpa is reporting that bomb experts are checking the body of a man found about a kilometer away from the Munich shooting scene for possible explosives.

A backpack was found on the body, which is now being examined. Police have said they're trying to determine if the body is that of a shooter.

Police say the shooting attack in the Bavarian capital Friday left eight victims dead.

___

12:05 a.m.

Police in Munich are urging people not to upload videos or photos from the shooting attack on social media but instead to provide them to authorities for their investigation by uploading them at a special link online.

The link is https://medienupload-portal01.polizei.bayern.de.

Meanwhile, police spokesman Peter Beck says at least 10 people have been hospitalized.

Bavarian public broadcaster Bayerischer Rundfunk is reporting that 20 people have been wounded in the attack.

___

11:55 p.m.

Police say the Munich shooting attack has left eight victims dead along with a 9th body that police are examining to see if it was an attacker.

Video obtained by The Associated Press from German news agency NonstopNews shows two bodies with sheets draped over them not far from a McDonald's across from one of the biggest malls in Munich.

Another video posted online shows a gunman emerging from the door of the McDonald's, raising what appears to be a pistol with both hands and aiming at people on the sidewalk, firing as they flee in terror.

Police are still searching the city for suspected shooters and Munich is in a transit lockdown, with trains, buses and trolley cars halted.

Munich police have set up a hotline for concerned citizens. Residents have also opened their doors to stranded people seeking shelter using the Twitter hashtag #opendoor.

why ask people not to upload their footage?
why not ask them to share the footage they upload?

the only reason o ask people NOT to upload is to control the narrative.

it doesn't help the police or the investigation,
having people not upload

peopel will do what they like with their property
the police can ask them to share it
but since when can they ask for you not to do what you want with your property when its not illegal to do so?

Not every country has a First Amendment in their Constitution.

Not every country has a First Amendment in their Constitution.

indeed
but if the police had that right
they wouldn't be asking would they?

by the language they have used it doesnt appear they have that right in Germany

or they would be ordering you

German authorities are backpedalling on all their previous statements.

As typical, the Germans are claiming "mental illness" as the motive before completing an investigation.

Germany has very strict gun laws. So, how did an 18-year-old with mental problems get hold of a Glock pistol?

apparently according to z germans cops he also had 300 rounds with him..

in the end though having mental illness doesn't exclude on of also being an adherent to a cause or a religion
its being used int he media as if having a mental illness excludes the other possibility...which they want to chat about..
so..

Somehow I don't think "mental illness" is behind this...it looks like an act of terrorism that, for whatever reason, Germany is trying to down play to possibly avoid a panic.

The gun.

24 JULY 2016 • 1:20PM

The German government has called for EU-wide gun controls in the wake of the Munich shootings, as it emerged the teenage attacker bought a gun on the “dark web”.

One of the mysteries of the attack has been how Ali Sonboly managed to get hold of a Glock handgun and the 300 rounds of ammunition police found in his backpack.

Police now believe he bought the gun on the so-called “dark web”, an area of the internet not accessible without special software, used by criminals and paedophile networks, according to Süddeustche Zeitung newspaper.

The gun was a deactivated weapon certified for use as a theatrical prop which had been reactivated before the attack.

The handgun’s most recent documentation was from Slovakia in 2014, raising concerns over the ease with which guns can be bought and sold around the border-free Schengen Area.

Germany has relatively tough gun laws and there is no way the teen could legally have obtained the gun in his own country....

Yes, Iranian-German David was born and raised in Munich. He has no criminal record and no religious. He was the son of asylum seekers in 1990s.

Yes he was in psychiatric care for depression treatment.

Accord neighbors, David's accent is high German speaking accent, not Iranian. Interesting.

Accord TV news of yesterday: One bloke who own gun license was being arrest for sell guns to David illegal. He got guns from Internet illegal, too.

David like to copy Norwegian who shoot many a years ago.

Imagine how thrilled Germany must be will all those they've let in on compassionate grounds. Looks like that's backfiring....soon the general public will be demanding an end to using their country for asylum.

I've always known Germany has one of the highest firearm ownership in the world. On my German mother's side, they always go out for ranges all the time. Germans have a passion for shooting. They're not really into hunting. I heard hunting is popular in Bavaria. I could ask my husband's aunt. Her husband is a Bavarian.

It seems that article didn't tell you about one thing. If you apply to get a gun permit in Germany for a reason in particular - self-defense, they would turn you down. It's a German law.

What I know is that you have to spend a year to get training, then you can get a permit.

Waffenschein is rare in Germany. That's another permit. It means a permit to carry gun. It's very difficult to get it unless a German is in law enforcement or something. I think the German law states that if your life is at risk all the time, you can get it, but if your life is not at risk constantly, so you can't get it. I think that's how it works there. I will have to look into it further.

I learned that European court system is more of rehabilitation but US court system is more of vengeance, what's huge difference with culture.

but it is depending on countries.

Thanks :)

I tried to search the update but it seem to me that they haven't done anything on him yet. I THINK they would put him to psychiatric care for a long time if he didn't kill himself.
