I wanted to post this in the Kepler spacecraft topic, but I thought this would be better suited for a topic of its own, since its regarding space discovery in general and the outer world.

Though I'm not much into astronomy and space, but from seeing a few clips out there and doing simple philosophizing.. anyone can come to a conclusion that our solar system is just a teeny speck of a minuscule thing compared to the rest of the stuff out there..

Most of what they are seeing in telescopes out there are the bigger of the planets and stars, the small ones are obviously not as easily seen.

Here's some youtubes representing what I'm saying. Check it out, it's worth watching, seriously.

Short clip with some of the cliff notes of big planets:

Shows you the distance zooming out.

Simulation from a movie called Contact:

I remember seeing this one with names, distances for each planet/galaxy/star system that gets zoomed out on..
Damn it! I can't remember when I saw it and where, and this sucks.
Because that one was really good. If anyone knows what I'm talking about, put the link here please, I really want to see that clip again. It names things like the Crab Nebula and its distance from earth under it, then zooms out to the Milky Way and its distance from Earth in it.. etc.
