Cloggy.. father of Lotte

Introducing Lotte to those that don't know her...

Feel free to ask anything to me.. or Lotte... I'll forward the question. :-)

We don't use sign language any more. We used sign before Lotte got her CI, and in the time where the transition was made to hearing /listning/speaking...
As you can see.. We know the sign for "I love you"............No signs for cursing, so I guess we're not fluent..

Lotte is doing well. One of the improvements we have seen over time is her ease at using the telephone. Many appointments are made with her friends here in Norway. Long conversations with her grandparents living in Holland. Great to see..

Lotte practising signs. Again, we don't use signs for communication, but it's fun to play with them. Here she mimics signs from a Norwegian application for iPhone..

Again,
Any questions are more than welcome...

Beautiful little girl. Reminds me of my daughter at that age. Bonus points for being a golfer!

She likes to whack the bal... (See link above the picture)
Getting on the course was big.. She carried that bag for 6 holes (against my advice) and then, tired, disappeared to the proshop. Played on the putting green until we arrived.. Smart girl...

Wow, she has a nice little swing. Good finish and great posture and a really good grip. (her grip is "strong" with the right hand. I prefer that type of grip)

Great feedback...
I got her a light bag... plus less clubs, so it should be OK... That time she just wanted that bag, and of course ALL clubs. LOL... Who am I to say no.. :-)

I'll back when I have question but I have no questions to ask you... Everything what you describe about Lotte is really beautiful.

I must say that Lotte is very lucky to have wonderful parents like you who spent their patience time with them.

One thing I am wondering about the different language between Holland & Norway since you mentioned...

Do Lotte understand both languages? Do she speak Dutch to her Grandparent? What languages do you & your family speak inside and outside of the house?

Hi Liebling (that sounds weird.. knowing German.. LOL..)

It's Dutch in our house.. unless there are friends that don't understand. Then it's either Norwegian or English.
For Lotte, Dutch and Norwegian are the two languages. She's learning English at school... Likes to use it, but not comfortable..

With her grandparents she speaks Dutch. And when we are visiting them in Holland, Lotte runs across the street to her friend there... and life goes on.. In Dutch..

How about you.. All German in your house?

Interesting... It's really good for Lotte to use both languages...

Yes, we speak & sign in German inside and outside of house. I look back & wish to use sign and speak English with my boys but good thing is my boys speak English well thru school and my British family... They speak each other English pretty well.

At work, there're English speaking... We still speak/sign in German because many co-workers are comfortable with their own languages... With Americans, I use English languages. I really don't mind to use both languages...

Milestones.. and views

.. they happen all the time, and like I have said on the blog.. sometimes they fly by, and sometimes they stand up in your face... (well, I said something to that effect..)

Last Thursday was the yearly checkup for Lotte. A great day out since we have to fly to Oslo, then take a train & tram to the hospital where the center for the check-up is located.. One of Lotte's teachers joined Lotte and her mum..

This time, for the first time, it was Lotte who was in charge. She has grown so much lately, that my wife had no problem just sitting back and let Lotte do all the talking. And the specialists were excellent at directing everything to Lotte.
It must have been a wonderful day for Lotte because she was 100% focused for the hole time. While adjusting the settings on the CI/BTE's, when finding the noises that she doesn't like (flushing the toilet) and trying to do something with that. While doing speech tests in noisy environment and while doing comprehension tests...
She loves to go there and thrives on the attention, but at the same time realises the importance of the day..

In all, this day marks a beginning of Lotte taking over the CI business from us. She can accurately give feedback about how and what she hears. She understands the tests they are doing. She understands that there are different settings she can use, because she was mentally there when they made them.
Of course life gos back to normal for her as soon as she was back in school, and she won't be playing with the different settings, but she knows they are there.

Also, with one of her teachers being there, there is someone at school that will recognise difficult situations and can tell Lotte to switch to another program.. or, she might identify that Lotte forgot to switch back to the default setting..

Anyway.. It's a huge milestone. It didn't fly by. We didn't bump into it. It was like the mountain range in the distance that we finally reached.. We knew it was there, and were cruising along towards it. Now, having reached it, we can enjoy the view forward, and back...
It's a great view...

(Norwegian landscape: Rondane mountains..)
