Explaining the Birds and the Bees to your Deaf child; Any advice?

It's looking like it's time to explain life to my 10 year old. He's proficient in ASL and I'm more at the mid-beginner level, so that in itself will be a challenge, let alone the subject matter. Does anyone know if there's a book out there that explains the B&B's? Any other ideas?

My mom gave me 'what's happening to my body' book when I was 12. I looked it up on Amazon and I guess it's no good anymore. Here's a link to a good boy book that show's the other books bought.

Amazon.com: What's Happening to Me?: Boys Edition (What's Happening to Me?): Alex Firth, Susan Meredith, Adam Larkum: Books

Talk with the school counselor and see what materials his school uses. He would benefit from any materials that are available to other children - deaf or hearing. The main thing is to be straightforward and to allow him to feel comfortable to ask questions. With many deaf children, instruction needs to be explicit (such as do not use figurative language) and to the point. Books with lots of pictures are helpful.

Yep. I explained the 'birds and bees" to my deaf child the same way I would have explained it to a hearing child. I just used a different language (ASL).

I posted a thread recently about someone having explained to a child that sex was the number between 5 and 7. lol, I know that's not ideal. I do support educating kids about sex so they are able to protect themselves with knowledge.

Kudos to you for asking...

Whatever you do, don't let the dorm kids do it. They will pervert everything and use curse words (heh). I wouldn't be surprised if he's dorm if he already knows the signs for them.

You should go with Jillio's and deafbajagal's suggestions.

Good luck!
