Any tips on finding Childcare for Deaf Kids
I am moving to a new city (Chicago) with one deaf and one HH child. (I am a hearing parent). I am just wondering how people go about finding childcare for deaf kids, if sign language is critical? Where I live now, I got lucky, one of our doctors put me in touch with a couple of grad students who signed, but in a new town, I just don't know where to begin. Thanks

i'm aware that more and more day care centers are using sign language to communicate with babies and toddlers. maybe that will help too... but i doubt they will know whole ASL.. just some basic ones.

In a large city such as Chicago, there will no doubt be numerous resources. I would suggest contacting state dept. of education for referrals to programs that use sign.
Putting ads in the paper can be risky when looking for childcare. |
