Did Ladd say that Deaf of Deaf don't go through the deafhood journey?

It just gets even more pathetic when they even don't dare to name those people they label.

Sorry, but I'm failing to decode this post.
Ladds deafhood will be my next read, so I don't have to ask too many stupid questions here.

Although I don't think people strayed too far from Paddy Ladd's material. However I will say the ideology has been perverted, but not too much it's not recognizable. That's the problem with Deafhood, everyone has a different interpretation of it. Even Barry Sewell and Mike McConnell have their own take on it.

This is bigger than just a Deaf person's journey into Deafhood. As Ladd states, it is the goal for Deafhood to promote new, healthy relationships between deaf, Deaf and hearing people. We have been damaged by audism and oralism and this concept is to support us to improve the situation such as our attitudes towards ourselves, public attitudes, etc. Ladd calls it the "Deaf Resurgence". So you say, there is no need for it? That is not for you to decide. |

I don't think you understand the concept.
Deafhood is about helping us educate people about who we are and explain that everyone is equal. So you don't think you are equal to the mainstream society? It applies to anyone with any "degree of hearing loss" and whether he or she uses hearing aids or cochlear implants because it is all about their own journey. I saw this example somewhere, but I can't find it...(I will get the source later) A Deaf ASL user went to a car wash place and he saw a lady with hearing aids. He tapped on her shoulders and asked her if she knew sign language. She didn't. So he spoke and signed to her which he didn't like but he wanted to expose her to ASL and the experience. They started to talk about their experience in the hearing wold. She expressed her frustration with the hearing world and she had a similar experience the same as Deaf people do. She started to lose her hearing when she was 19 years old and even though she uses hearing aides, she still experiences frustrations with the hearing world. She relies heavily on reading lips and having the person face her at all times. She wanted to learn sign language so he told her about sign language classes at the college. THAT IS HER JOURNEY INTO DEAFHOOD. Deafhood does not save us, but it helps us understand who we are. I wonder if you are actually starting to experience your own journey into Deafhood because you have been learning ASL, posting some vlogs and contributing to AD? |

Me again...
I know in the past that HH or Late Deafened people had a hard time to fit in the Deaf Community because they were being rejected because they were not Deaf enough, or they werent fluent enough in ASL. But, that was because the world oppressed us as Deaf people and then in turn, most of us oppressed others without realizing it. But now, with Deafhood, it helps us realize that we all have a similar experience no matter what kind of hearing level we have and helps us educate the mainstream society. I am not sure if this is applicable to this discussion but thought I would throw this in as typically when people are resistant to Deafhood, it is because they had a bad experience with trying to fit in. Everyone is just going through a process. |

If you have completely no need for it, why the constant blabbering in this thread?
Going after Ridor in your link you posted here and trying to make him look like he was not bringing unity to the Deaf community - I would expect a better role outta you by that alone. |

He doesn't bring unity. Pretty obvious. But that's the beside the point here. Not about him or me. Don't worry about me if I don't fullfill your expectations. Each to his/her own. |

"I have no need for it."
Kokonut - yeah you do otherwise you wouldn't always be here posting and commenting and sharing your thoughts with us. If indeed Deafhood and deaf culture and deaf community are meaningless to you, then you would never be here so evidently, you do care enough to be here every single day even if to keep posting that you don't need all this. |
